After arriving in Rostock prior to the beginning of trainingscamp on Canada Day he gave a short interview about his expectations for the new season.Ryan wants to become familiar with the Bundesliga as quickly as possible and considers playing for Hansa regularly his top priority ahead of any games he might play for the Canada during the qualifikation for Olympia. He also talks about his years at Sheffield and why it didn't work out at the end but he seems ready and hungry to prove himself in the Bundesliga.Good luck Ryan.

I would prefer he make a name at club level. He looked good as youngster.

I'd have to agree. I wish we could qualify for the Olympics, but it seems very secondary. Sure, the time together for a young squad would be great, but we don't yet have the sort of depth--or cash--that would allow us to focus on the Olympic squad without hurting WCQ etc. Our guys need to develop with their clubs, develop into professionals etc., or else they will never be particularly useful to us on the international scene.

I think especially in Gyaki's case that it is more important that he succeeds at the club level. This could be his last chance at a professional soccer career and if he does well it will benefit us in the long run since he is a very talented player who has had a lot of bad luck up to now.

I think he'll be playing 4th division in Germany, if he's doing well there and gets notice by the HR first team staff I would advise him to stay there. On the other side, if he's struggling for playing time I would take the chance to play the qualifications, a good performance there could boost his confidence and get him notice.

The way I interpret his comments is that if he is playing for the 4th division team he will come to the Olympic team but if he gets a callup to the 1st Bundesliga he will not.

That's the way i interpreted it too. he said it's his priority to play in the bundesliga

When should we expect the Bundesliga and lower division schedules to be out? I will be in Germany in August, maybe twice in fact, and am game for a game or two. Thanks.

This is what Ryan can look forward to in terms of home and away support.

The West Germans welcome Hansa back to the 1st Bundesliga. Though to be fair to Hansa fans the West Germans are very arrogant and blame all hooliganism on the East when there are probably at least a dozen West German teams they could make the same film about (but wouldn't). Rot-Weiss Essen for example. But here it is anyway and it is funny if you understand German:

I´m a "Wessi" and I don´t want to sound arrogant. But unfortunatelly hooliganism is more a problem of the Eastern clubs. I don´t want to say that the fans of the Western teams are angels, not by far, (in Kaiserslautern we had a lot of trouble with Karlsruher fans), but the worst riots we have when Eastern teams are playing against each other.

I hope that Ryan and Hansa can play a good role this year, it´s necesarrily that eastern temas have the chance to compete in the first division.

I won't deny that the hooligan problem in the east is worse than in the west but not to the extent it is portrayed by the media and by west Germans. The worst hooligan club in Germany in my opinion is West German Rot Weiss Essen. The rest of the top five would be filled by West German Offenbach and three East German teams, at the moment probably Dynamo Dresden, Hansa and Magdeburg.

Let's look at how some of the good West German clubs behaved this year. The worst hooligan incident in Germany this year was probably the attack on Nurnburg fans by Bayern Munich hooligans at a truck stop which among other things left the wife of the Nurnburg bus driver blind in one eye. 1860 Munich was involved in two serious incidents this year, one a fight with Bayern fans at a reserve team game and another when they rioted in Augsburg. Cologne fans rioted in Aue this year and then the club even tried to say it was Dresden fans who joined them who were responsible even though all of the large number of fans who were arrested were from Cologne. Waldhof Mannheim fans rioted in Pforzheim earlier in the season.

Now we could add a number of East German incidents to the list but as you can see the list of incidents by West German clubs is by no means small nor is that a complete list. Hooliganism is a problem in all of Germany not just the East and the West Germans try to hide their own problems by blaming it entirely on the East. Do you really think the media in Germany (which is almost entirely controlled by West Germany) would make a similar film about Bayern Munich fans who behaved every bit as badly as Hansa fans did this year. Would they take a similar tone and say, "Dear Bayern fans, anyone can beat up some opposing fans at a truck stop but only you can beat up a woman and blind her."

My opinion is still that the biggest problem is the exitence of hooliganism. My girlfriend has a season ticket in the Westkurve, where the hard core of the fans of FCK are standing (she isn´t one of them..:-)), but she often tolds me that she is scared when she sees whats happen during the games. She is only waiting that they trash each other.

Last weekend there took place a big fan meeting where this problem was addressed to the top of our association. Hope this bears fruits.

These are the new jerseys for the upcoming season.First game will be away against FC Bayern infront of almost 70 000 fans.

I have to agree with most of your comments regarding the one sided coverage of crowd problems by the german media but close behind Dynamo as the worst offender in my opinion still ranks Lok and BFC with their sizable Kategorie C fans.
