Sutton done for the season?

On last night's Sportsnet telecast of the Toronto FC game, they mentioned that Sutton might not play any more this year. Mo Johnston confirmed during an interview that they will meet with the doctors and Sutton on Monday and decide wether to put Sutton on injured reserve for the rest of the year meaning his salary will be available to pay another keeper. The catch is if they do this, Sutton cannot play any more this year. He would receive a salary but this is most likely some kind of insurance payment I would think. Complicating matters is the fact that they would only be able to get a Canadian keeper as all their American and foreign spots are filled(unless they trade one of their Americans or foreigners).

Any ideas as to which Canadian keepers are available if they go this route?

If I were part of Den Haag management, assuming I've decided Wagenaar is not my first choice keeper, I would really like to see him go out on loan to TFC. Ditto for Begovic. I don't know if that's a big upgrade on SD though. Kenny is the only keeper who would really bring any experience, and I doubt Tromso would just let him go given their problems with injuries.

Agree about Wagenaar and Begovic but is it possible to have "on loan" players in the MLS? I'm asking because I've never noticed such players and I know the structure is a bit different than most leagues around the world.

During the New York game, Gerry Dobson stated that Markus Schopp was on loan from Red Bull Salzburg so yes it's possible. MoJo has already been talking about getting a premiership defender on loan.

Ok, thanks.

So it would be nice to have one of Begovic/Wagenaar with TFC. I'm pretty sure they would be an improvement but maybe not what TFC is looking for due to their lack of experience.

Stamatopoulos is back on the bench with Tromso, TFC might be an option for him.

No evidence, but I suspect that Mo was seen leaving Craig Forest's place last night . . . . wearing kneepads. :D

On a more serious note, I doubt that Begovic wants to leave the eyesight of Harry Rednapp, especially if starting the EPL season as the #2 is a possibility, as he then just has to wait for old age to give James a few injuries. James is not nicknamed "Calamity James" for nothing, and a few errors, or a shock return to the England squad to try to salvage Euro qualifying this Fall (Robinson, Carson, and Green have hardly impressed), could result in a few EPL starts for our future MNT starter.

Kenny probably can't be spared by his club, and Lars is definitely impossible to acquire.

The two keepers in Belgium (Wagenaar and Giacomi) are possibilities.

There is a Canadian keeper in the lower divisions in England (Traynor? At Torquay?), but I can't remember anything about him and suspect that this option might not be any better than U-20s like Monslave, who is no better than SD.

Since alot of TFC fans want Mo to make a deal to bring DeRo home, why not add abit more to have Onstad thrown in? His excellent GC performance on such short notice means that WCQ errors are largely forgiven, and as much as Houston would want to keep him for this season, a 39yr old player can only stay on for so long, and therefore cannot be too expensive.

Onstad has mentioned wanting to coach after retiring. Playing in Canada, and perhaps having some sort of assistant/academy position thrown into the offer to jumpstart that coaching career, might entice him.

Otherwise, well, MLSE has Chris Bosh under contract, and he certainly has the height! [:P]

Yep, that's him. Thanks Sigma.

Any idea about his ability? I'm guessing by the level of play he has experienced that it would not be worth it to fly him over in preference to someone like Monslave.

Apparently Sutton's OK now. Taken from the news of Samuel's signing from the G&M:

"Goalkeeper Greg Sutton has been cleared to play after suffering a concussion in practice with Canada's team at the Gold Cup. There were concerns that Sutton, who reportedly was still suffering symptoms from the injury, would not be able to play again this season."
