I've been a member of this board for a couple of years now. Obviously I have a soft spot for Canada in my heart. For the longest time it was because the Canadian fans are amoungst the coolest on the internet. Now it is because I believe your national team will be in South Africa 2010. For a long time Canada had good players, but could never put the teamwork aspect together. I think you guys have finally got it. I predict the US, Mexico, and Canada finish 1,2,3 in the next cycle of world cup qualifying.

Thanks Mr Yank, or can I just call you Crazy. [:P]

I think Canada has proven that it can get the better of Central American countries like Costa Rica and Guatamala (which should also mean Honduras), as well as Caribean nations like Haiti, Jamaica, and the temporarily all-amateur T&T. This, of course, is dependent on using refs that are not incompetent or corrupt, which means using non-CONCACAF refs that Jack Warner can't influence without likely getting caught.

Using BMO Field with a strong Canadian crowd would also help. It would be possible to get a pro-Canada crowd in Toronto if TFC season tickets holders are given first dibs, and perhaps followed by a secret "Voyageurs" password on Ticketmaster for others here to get a shot before the general public.

The main thing that this excellent GC performance can do is to convince Canadian players and the CSA that Canada has a real shot at WCQ, and that it would be worth the time, effort, and money to really go for it.

If the CSA is able to insist on non-CONCACAF refs for our home games, with a pro-Canadian and slightly insane crowd at BMO (including those Ultras types to put a little fear into our Central American friends), I can see us winning every home game. The Mexicans are known to wilt in such situations. The American will be the toughest, but I think we can pull it off at BMO with a European ref. Then if we manage a win or draw at a Caribbean venue (don't count on anything in Central America) that should be enough for third in the hex.

Do we use a grass field for the WCQ?

BMO Field is FIFA-approved, therefore it doesn't matter whether it's grass or not.

Costa Rica played all but one of their qualifiers last time at Saprissa, which has a lower grade FieldTurf than the pitch in Toronto.

Of course the CSA just might schedule our WCQ games in Whistler.

I hear they have a new field up there.

only if the game falls on a Tuesday during the European season, and only if they can start the Whistler game at 10 PM local time.
