Upside Down Flag Protest

What about an upside down Canada flag protest during the U-20s. It is simple, grassroots activism that everyone can do. The site of 100s (…hopefully thousands) of upside Canadian flags should get the world media asking what is going on? It is also a sign to Jack Warner's CONCACAF cabal that we won’t forget.

I know that it is a little disrespectful to the flag, but it is for a just cause.

Actually, there was a picture of some Canadian fans holding up flags at a game and someone had it upside down.

I think I actually suggested we do that in that thread, before this even happened again.

Is it not an international sign of distress?

It actually seems fitting.

An upside down Canadian flag is disrespectful to our boys who wear the Maple Leaf,

on the field and everywhere else. If you want, an upside down picture of

Archundia or CONCACAF flag would have a better effect.

Or if everyone wears a T-Shirt like the one posted before: CONCACAF Ref (or Official): Cash Only.

I don't think it would be disrespectful to the players at all.

Just the opposite.

That we watch the game, support them and care enough to protest ongoing and consistent problems.

Their efforts are being ruined, and it matters.

This is the call that broke the camels back.

Lets not forget the Blue Jays....

Lets not get caught up in the value of symbolism.

The more I think about this, as crazy at it is, it could be really become a trademark.

Ultimately it just being on the minds of people, officials and fans affects the way they think.

In those split second decisions.... well it probably depends a lot on who is running down the field.

How many people think Brazil would have been called offside on that?

100% guaranteed that if even one of you knuckleheads hold a flag upside down during the U20 tourney here, the media will be all over it and bring disrespect to our game.

A moronic act, especially during a time when our soldiers are dieing over in Afganastan.

Use your heads.

Upside down Canadian flag is a very bad idea because it is not Canada we are protesting against. We could hold upside down FIFA or CONCACAF flags but I doubt many people have these flags nor would many viewers realize the significance. I think the best thing would be some anti-CONCACAF, anti-Warner or anti-Archundia chants. It would be especially good if Warner and Blatter were introduced at the game and we could chant something like criminals so they know what we think of them. I imagine any banners that said something negative about CONCACAF or FIFA would not be permitted to be hung up.

Agreed. My nephew was with the Forces in Afghanistan and would be

horrified to see that on TV. People will mistakenly think it's

an anti-Canada thing, especially since they're not familiar with

the Voyageurs. It's anti-CONCACAF B.S. that you want to highlight.

Hmm, what's the Spanish word for criminal? [}:)]

I dont like the idea of the Canadian flag either. The media would misinterpt this grossly and everyhting we are doing would just confuse most people.

Now, if we had the effin CONCACAF flag to hang upside down, along with some words of protest on banners, that would be effective.

Theres gotta be some way we could get the CONCACAF logo and get it printed on a flag.

I suggested on the U Sector board that someone in Toronto do a formal protest for the Canada-Chile game.

I'm looking into doing something similar in Edmonton, but I figure all of the suits will be at the Chile match as it kicks off the tournament.

What I was thinking was that we get a large, over-sized novelty cheque addressed to Jack Warner for say $100,000 be 'presented' (or at least displayed) with 'for unbiased officiating' or something along those lines in the memo line.

I think this would be attention-getting, deliver the message and is a little funny I think.

cheers,

matthew

I pasted this on the U-20 section, Upside down flag thread as well as on facebook (we have no presence there btw).

How about we all dress up in Referee Jerseys (or Juventus, or black and white stripes), walk around with sunglasses and sticks, with monopoly money in our hands and chant Warner's name every 5 minutes?

Hey we kinda did that in Seattle (Gold Cup 2005):

when the ref did a very poor call against us, we flashed

some American cash at the ref ...

Putting an upside down flag shoots down all who have fought for Canada and all who have come here and are proud to have built our great land. We are fighting international corruption and our flag belongs to all Canadian. Tell your kids how they should respect their country and flag and then do the opposite......hummmm....

Towel power was a surrender by Roger Nielson & the 1982 Canucks due to the bad ref'ing vs Boston. Why not carry it into Soccer as it's Canadiana.

Btw, I will punch out the first person I see w/ an upside down Canada flag. At this time, whether we agree or not agree w/ where our military is, what they are doing & for those that have fought before them, it's something as Canadians we don't do.
