canso
The wee man was greating great! Scored a cracker, got his mates playing with some urgency, cleared the ball off his own goal line and was basically involved in every play since he came on the field, even outjumped that lump of stupid they call Gooch and knocked him flat on his cro magnon forehead!! I love this guy for so many reasons, let us count the ways: 1)He wears Wendel Clark's number. 2)He leaps like a salmon in spawn (Iain "Sockeye" Hume!?!?) 3)He has a left and a right and can control the ball in tight. 4)He has a Scottish accent. 5)He gets red in the face like a three year old who wants to bite something. 6)He gets stuck in!! (Iain "Bites yer legs" Hume?!?) 7)He is feckin fearless and ferocious. 8)He is Canadian! 9)He still looks like a kid on recess trying to get picked by the bigger boys. 10)He is Canadian! 11)He is Canadian! 12)He is Canadian! 13)He is Attiba's best friend. I love this guy!!!!

redhat
Oh the Hume-anity! Iain Hume deserves a lot of credit for his goal and grit. What a goal. And to think that an American writer called him a "Canadian Goon" after his hit on Onyewu. What's he, 5'7? Beating up a Shrek of a man of 6'3? Geez. The Beaver
Have always loved Hume and think it was a bit of a waste to have him ride the pine for most of this tournie. Maybe he would have been lost way out wide right, but he is a creative, positive player and would have done more to challenge defenders on that side than Bernier did. This is not a knock against Bernier. Bernier is a destroyer. His passing is okay, his crosses are generally poor, and he doesn't seem to have the knack--except for once or twice yesterday--for going at defenders. Would have loved to see him in Nash's role, to be honest. Canso, your list is pure poetry. Hume is a BIG GAME PLAYER, without a doubt. He's fierce, and fiercely Canadian. Did he not coin the phrase, "Canuck style", defined as a blend of hard as nails football and technical, creative flair, with a massive dollop of hardwork and killer pride. This is Hume in a nutshell; this is our team in a nutshell. We are building: we are truly rising. Props to Hume for a massive game.

Did this same American writer refer to any of the US players as goons or savages or arse-rapers? What was Bocanegra's two-footed attack on DeGuzman? Or Bradley's? Glad to see Iain thumping the **** out of the Yanks. Did he deserve a card in there somewhere? Sure, why not. But he got the job done, just like the Yankie savages did. juxtap
Iain Hume took that game over. Exactly what a sub should do.
The Beaver
One other very interesting observation: When Hume hits the pitch, Hutch becomes a better, more alive, more assertive player. Saw that last night, and saw it in the few minutes Hume played against Guatamala. They understand each other in a way that is only paralleled by the freaky Sedin twins. You can't beat this sort of understanding, especially when it elevates the game of two very good players. Others might disagree, but Hume must be on the pitch more often. Lord Bob
Four years ago, I was calling Iain Hume the future of Canadian soccer. And yeah, it was, like, thirty minutes of a match, but now who looks stupid? Woooo! I'm happy about him, and eagerly await his return to unimpressive obscurity. I agree that he deserves this thread. I'd love to see him and a big man paired up front (even though it goes against our formation du jour). The Beaver
Hume would do well with TFC, but he's young and should continue to pursue a career in Europe. No matter what Mr. Lalas says, the EPL is still several notches better than MLS, and most of the teams in the CC Championship are as good, if not better, than most of the teams in MLS, too. Hume could still crack the EPL.
Daniel
To add to the list: he has a history of awesome haircuts Only his second goal for our seniors, though. Hope he gets going. And agree that he should have played wide right with Bernier as a defensive shield. It seems Nash was on there especially for all the dead ball situations (where he does excel).
