Paddy
Hi, It was mentioned (can't recall where) that Victoria will keep the stadium setup after the U20 WC (14000 seats I believe) and take Vancouver's spot in the USL if/when they go to the MLS. I am still not sure that Victoria will support a team at the USL level. There is still a pretty apathetic attitude to pro soccer here. Has anyone else heard anything else about this? DarnCherry
I haven't heard anything about it but I doubt their support would be any lower than California, Miami, Atlanta, etc.

I think I heard about Victoria and the USL on a local station yesterday.

Population around 95,000. Next would be Charleston with a few thousand more.
Streets
If Victoria got a team, that make for a good road trip every now and then or boat trip.
DJT
quote:Originally posted by Paddy Has anyone else heard anything else about this? Yes, a Victoria newspaper article about this was posted twice — here's the most recent: http://www.thevoyageurs.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12477 (The threads with the articles were originally in the "Other Men's Clubs & Leagues" section while this one was originally in the MLS section. All are better placed in the USL section, so I've moved them.)

Calgary Boomer
It will only be 10,000 seats with the temp seating on the opposite side of the main grandstand. There was also talk of building a similar sized venue at Juan De Fuca where the old Velodrome is located.
CanadasBest
I agree that there's a certain amount of apathy towards low level pro soccer in Victoria. Victoria United is a good example of this. I think with some decent marketing and cross promotion with a MLS Whitecap team, a USL franchise would be successful in Victoria.
Calgary Boomer
Didn't the Vistas of the CSL attract an average 1800 fans? It might have actually been higher in year 1, and when the 86ers came, it was 4,000 plus for sure. Those numbers blow away California and Miami. Calgary Boomer
I don't think Victoria needs to wait for Vancouver to bolt. I think they should join ASAP and take advantage of the close rivavlries with Por & Sea as well. There's some buzz around Hamilton right now, as the Ticats owner is keen on a USL 1 team for McMaster University's stadium, which is a field turf facility with 6,000 permanent seats with expansion to 12,000...a perfect USL size. 2 new Canadian teams would be fantastic. Blue and White Army
Hamilton should have made the jump when Toronto was still around.

Another multipurpose field with a bank of seats down one side of the field that they call a "stadium". http://www.athrec.mcmaster.ca/arcs/joyce_stadium.pdf
