nolando
A few quick afterthoughts Sutton, like Onstad before him is not a gamebreaker. Bernier playing in a defensive mid role should be almost anonymous if he is playing well - quietly breaking up plays or making little passes foreward. Last game though, he was meant to be offensive and didn't have it.

That's my point: he's not giving us the attacking dimension we need but I think (hope?) he is capable of playing the anonymous defensive role which you have described, preferably in the central position in front of the back four. Joe Keeper
What a shameful display by both sides. Canada completley imploded and Guadaloupe's time wasting tactics where absolutley disgusting. But atlaeast we know that our performance can be improved upon, Guad. crap is obviously a regular tactic. The line up looked ok. Hume should have been brought on for Bernier, who looked out of position. In the next game I would like to see Nash dropped for Hume if Friend is not ready to go. If Rob is healthy, we should revert back to the original formation. Bernier looks better when dropped back in the park. The over all goalkeeping poition is the one that worries me the most. If Sutton doesnt really start convincing in the next few games, and Hirschfelt doesnt finnally make a real commitment, then we should start looking at the younger guys for our No. 1 jersey. Tybalt
quote:Originally posted by BrennanFan Nash, im sure he's a nice guy. Ouch. I thought the same way. I thought the lack of hustle and commitment was absoutely appalling, but frankly I didn't think that was a problem for Nash, because he's just so far off the pace. There is absolutely no way he has enough talent to make, for example, the Guadeloupe squad. Was there a single one of their players you wouldn't have traded for Nash? quote:It really was all psychological weakness. Thought they could win by going along in 3rd gear, well they couldnt. Hart should have started Nakajima Ribeiro Harmse Poz and Hume across the midfield, they would not have had that attitude and we would have won. I wouldnt mind if they started against Haiti, as our first string could use a benching after that sorry display. They never made it to third gear. I know that it was very hot and humid, but the players have to show more commitment in that situation, especially the midfield.
Guest speedmonk42
Don't we sort of have a history of doing this?
ray
Terrible result for Canada after showing such promise against Costa Rica. However, it is probably good for the guys to face some adversity and a must win game against Haiti. We will face these types of opponents in qualifying and had better learn how to deal with them now. Canada can still progress to the next round with a good result in its next match and we definitely need GC games as was shown against Guadeloupe. While it was bad losing, it would be unacceptable not to progress to the next round.
MikeD
quote:Originally posted by BrennanFan Hainault has disappointed me, i thought he was an up and comer for a starting spot but he wouldnt even be starting on TFCs weak central defence, much less Canadas. I expected more from him. What more do you expect from a 20-year-old centre back? Hainault is still an up-and-comer. Very few 20-year-olds can step in at this level and perform as well as he has. To put this in perspective, he's the same age that McKenna was when McKenna debuted for the national team and it took McKenna several years to establish himself as a regular at central D for the national team. (Hence, McKenna playing as a target striker for a couple of years.) The difference between now and 2000 (when McKenna debuted) is that we have less depth at central D now than we did then. Thus, Hainault is getting thrown in the deep end now when he never would have gotten a sniff in 2000. But let's not start writing the guy off at age 20. If we had McKenna and Brennan in this tournament, Hainault wouldn't be playing, but give Hainault a few more years of development in Europe and I'm sure he'll be challenging for a full-time starting spot on the national team. Like your style Mike and as for Hainault Starting for Toronto FC, he was one of the first Defenders to be asked to sign up for the new franchise, obviously he prefered to stay in europe, since he was only 19 at the time and wants to give the old continent a honest try. For those who know Andrew, It's the whole package that the Men's team is interested in, not just the performance on the pitch, let's not forget the players represent their country off the field as well and for some players, they know it all and nobody can teach them anything new, far from the case with Hainault. He is one of the most humble "pro's" there is and is extremely critical of his play but after speaking with him yesterday, he thought, as always, that he could of done better and his teammates as well. They are putting that disastrous game behind them and concentrating on the game tonight, as well they should...
Ivan
Hainault and Edgar will be our starting centre backs for the next 10 years after 2010 (if not before).
CanadasBest
I've had like 4 co-workers today laughing and asking me how we could lose to Guadeloupe. After I was raving about how well Canada played on Wednesday, I guess a few of them decided to watch Saturday's game. It's so annoying that we cannot play consistently. Guest Jeffery S.
Just to rub it in: anyone realize that Guadeloupe is a girl's name, the name of a Virgin Mary? Anyone here ever gone out with a girl named Lupe? Pretty common.
Pyramis
I totally agree with you. If Canada plays like they did against Costa Rica they will get the result they need. De Guzman was definitely the man of the match but what really bothers me is when a guy has such a great game one day and a piss poor game days later. That goes toward De Rosario and Hutchinson as well....were they playing with a hangover or what? De Rosario loses the ball 9 times of 10...horrible....he is the most frustrating player to watch!!!!!!!! They all need to step up and get the result but if they played like they did against Guateloupe, the outcome will not be favourable. I hope Steve Hart decides to start Friend up front and bench Bernier because he did absolutely nothing against Guateloupe. Good luck Canada! CanadasBest
Agreed, If it weren't for the U-20 Tournament I think we would have seen Peters on the right side instead of Bernier. Although he's young, I have not seen a player on any team in this tournament with the pace that Peters has.
