loyola
From this group I would cut Nash, Grande, Gervais, Gerba and one of Pozniak or Braz. I'm a bit worried with the defensive depth of this squad. With Bernier, Imhoff, DeRo, DeGuzman and Hutchinson there, we could be tempted to play Atiba at center back (specially if Mckenna is a no show, there's a rumour that he won't attend). Juby
that's funny, I can understand Mckenna being listed as a foreward cause he's played that role before for us so it's just a simple mistake, but Gerba on D, thats just silly. I have a question though, in the earlier thread people were talking about the lack of Nsliwa, I'm just wondering if that could be on his side or does someone know somebody well enough to know if he's eager to suit up. I would guess he's protecting himself due to the transfer to AEK. Then again, I'm not sure how long that 30 list was up. Too bad, he looked awesome against Hungary. My question is where is Josh Simpson? He was ripping up the B-2 at the end of the season. It's not like we have an overabundance of guys who can score. But yes, Josh's absence is odd. At the present time, Nash's inclusion in recent selections is not strangely sentimental but only strange. Even in his prime when we had a much weaker player pool he was a borderline selection. Good crossing but weak in many other areas. I can only hope that this is a Hart not a Mitchell selection as I don't want to see players like this in our WCQ pool. I seem to remember having this quality of player in the lineup being one of the main reasons we were so poor during the last WCQ.
redhat
Still a pretty good roster IMHO. Forwards are Derosario, Friend, Hume, Occean, Gerba, and an option of McKenna upfront. Mids include De Guzman, Brennan (better than at defence), Hutchinson, Grande and Harme. Issey, who I thought didn't look out of place in the Hungary game, is also included. And with Lars back in the fold, and Wagonaar as back-up, we should be okay despite the lack of Stalteri, Radzinski, Sutton , and Nsaliwa. I'm more concerned about the lack of prep and how it would affect our performance than who we're missing on our roster. Gold Cup is to examine our depth and assess what we need for WCQ. (Still, I'm not too pleased that the CSA is approaching this continental championship seemingly as a throw away.)

I forget, but didn't Nash sort of become a super sub - last 30-20 minutes of a game? He always seemed to make something happen...but granted, that was a while ago. BrennanFan
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/columns/torontofc-notebook/ Brennan said that he wasn't sure if he would play for Canada at next month's Gold Cup. ken
Who are the Centre backs in this group? Assuming that Mckenna is injured and is there as injury cover later in the tourney (he gets called only if needed) there's Hainault and Gervais. Brennan's been playing there with TFC but that is not his position, Hutchinson has played there, but same comment plus his club has been playing him as a striker. Have Klukowski Pozniak or Jazic ever played CB? Also I would expect to see two of Braz, Brennan and Pozniak but not three. One of Jazic or Harmse but not both. Want to stay on the clubs good side and not make life difficult for the players. Finally one of Gerba, Grande and Occean as they are all in season. That's how you get to 18 by subtraction. You know for someone who has him in your username, you dont seem to push for his selection to events very much in the past. I think he is a good player and wished he was asked to play for Canada more often then he is(he is sometimes of course but not often enough IMO). Guest Jeffery S.
quote:Originally posted by jonovision He's now with Molde of the Norwegian second tier. He is on the Molde roster but I have not seen him even called up to it in the first month of the season. Not a good sign. We are pulling quite a few guys off their clubs in mid-season. The MLS guys can live with it as we are in the same boat at the US in that, so we most MLS clubs are hurt by it. Dumb of them to not do less games or none at all during Gold Cup. Bernier is negotiating for a new transfer, since doing that has not been starting and is playing less, so Tromso can live with it. De Guzman is starting lately, or playing a lot, but Deportivo has nothing to play for in the last three games of the year, no legitimate relegation fears or real UEFA hopes. Grande is not playing lately. Hirschfeld starts for Rosenborg, and they are struggling already this season. Not sure if he could be hurt by being away, I think he could very well lose his starting spot if they turn things around while he is gone. Occean is in a similar situation as Lars. Gold Cup could just be the difference between him being leading scorer in Norway or not (now tied in the lead), or his team taking the title or not (current leaders). Jimmy has been my favourite player since the cracker he scored against Jamaica in Toronto years ago, but I am a Canada Supporter first and foremost. He should have started for us at left mid in the last WCQ, but that was then. Now, its clear to me JB has been surpassed by Kluk and Simpson on the left side, but with his new CB role with TFC, there may still be a place for him on the MNT. I hope he plays in the Gold Cup. 500th Post!
Gian-Luca
Why are they even listing McKenna at all? I thought we heard that he wasn't going. Other than that, the omission of Josh Simpson is surprising & puzzling. Stalteri obviously won't be recovered from his injury. Reda not getting called is also not a surprise. I expect that one of Braz , Poz & Brennan will also stay with TFC. The central defense pairing may end up being Hainault & one of the TFC players, or perhaps Klukowski. Stick Imhof at right back.
