georg
Beckham left off All-Star ballot Beckham left off All-Star ballothttp://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,21747544-23215,00.html "I think not naming him is right," Toronto FC forward Danny Dichio, who is also in his first year in MLS after spending much of his 14-year career playing in England, said. "I think even if you ask him, he'll say that I haven't played in the league yet and the other midfielders and central midfielders who have worked hard all season belong there and deserve to be on the all-star spot." RS
Regardless, if healthy, he'll be on that team.
Crazy_Yank
Probably. The all star coach is allowed 2 of his own selections. I can't see him not selecting Becks.
nolando
Funny - I think there are two versions of this story circulating: http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/news?slug=beckhamallstarballot&prov=st&type=lgns Probably edited for length from this original. Or maybe edited for uncomplimentary Beckham comments. I like this one simply becuase DDR makes more comments that sound like he is in the middle of contract negotiations with the reporter, rather than with the league, which of course we know to be the case. I used to imagine DDR as too laid back and not assertive enough to get a decent contract out of the league, or not to fight harder for a place in Europe. That's obviously not true anymore, if it ever was. These kind of quotes, especially post-Beckham signing, certainly show a side not seen often by MLS players. I'm glad there are critics within the player's union - because a guy like DDR is getting the short side more than any MLS player I can think of when it comes to comparing his contract with what he is worth on the field vis-a-vis Becks. --- "I don't think he should play," said the Houston Dynamo's Dwayne De Rosario, a former MLS All-Star and Man of the Match as the game's most valuable player. "There is no doubt that they will think of picking him because of his name but regardless of that name, he still needs to prove himself here in the MLS. "He's doing well at Real Madrid and is a great player but ... there are players in this league who have won championships and come to work hard everyday, and have really done a lot for the league. It is a little disappointing for someone to come into the league and be an immediate star."
