canadianfoot
I am kind of new and lost why is the CSL divided into a National & International Division? I mean if you look at the teams the one to travel the biggest distance is Trois-Riviere Attack. Wouldn't it be better to make 1 Division? That subject might have been asked already, if so sorry.[]
Richard
Good question.
Elias
No matter what the division set-up was, TR would still have the biggest distance to travel. The goal is eventually to have regional divisions so TR would play in a Quebec division. The "international" division is really just a Toronto division. canadianfoot
So IF the International division is just a TO one why not mix Both of them together? I mean TR Attak will still have to travel the same distance. And if next year Quebec City FC joins in then there will be 11 teams in the division that's 20games to play ;)nice
Elias
Okay, I sort of agree, that right now, one division may be better. Next year along with Quebec, there will be an other Toronto ethnic team (African Icons) and supposedly Brampton. So you're up to 13 teams. However, the objective is laying the foundation for the long term. Next year there will be 2 teams in Quebec. The goal is to get 5-6 eventually so there can be a Quebec division. Again, I understand what you're saying about this season, but the point is long term. Plus, divisions do create rivalries, especially in the playoffs. River City
I'm of the opinion that as long as they have the international teams, two divisions is good. This way, they can use the publicity from a Serbia - Croatia game to promote the rest of the league - something that obviously generates a lot more interest than if it was Italia against North York Astros. canadianfoot
ELIAS I agree with you that in the long term we want Quebec to have it's own division. Since Canada is such a big country only division makes sense(it will be a while until "relegation" come into play). But unfortunately I am still dreaming of a 2 or 3 league setup with relegation....ahhh dream on.....lol but seriously IF Ontario can have let's say "right now" 10+ teams and within 1yrs probably another 5+ making D1 and D2 with relegation would make it both Exciting and Competitive. While keeping the travel distances reasonable....VIA Rail here I come.... According to an article on the CSL page http://www.canadiansoccerleague.ca/news.asp?c=2&id=5016 They are looking into: In addition, the International Division established in 2006, has recently added the African Icons as an expansion club, and groups from the Greek, Korean, Polish, Spanish and Indian communities are among those seeking membership. I mean every time I visit Mississagua I feel like in Poland they have a team so does the polish community in Vancouver and a few of the "old-boys(35yrs+)" even played in the polish 1 or 2 league and they still kick the ball with the young ones. Well that's a short vision and is only viable on short distances. Since you won't see a team from Quebec go to Manitoba to play a game........ canadianfoot
Now something quickly does anybody have any "stats/numbers" as to what the annual budget of any of the CSL teams is? Just curious.....(my old man always says curiosity is the first step to hell)
