Jarrek
Now called New Zealand Football. I think it's time for Canada to do the same, and take back the name they stopped using in the 60's. CSA -> CFA Canadian Football Association http://www.nzsoccer.com/

red card
CFA also stands for Chartered Financial Analyst - of which I am one - and it's trademarked in 54 countries. So, you might need some relief to use it.
Alex
Considering we play football (gridiron) in Canada and its called the Canadian Football League.. people are gonna get confused.
Jarrek
So? The situation is pretty much the same in Australia and New Zealand.

RS
And yet the Aussie team is still known as the "Socceroos". Leave it as it is.
Guest speedmonk42
Soccer is fine. The English FA use both soccer and football. If they can use soccer, certainly we can. So who cares.
Free kick
quote:Originally posted by nolando "The move leaves USA as the only known country that still refers to the code as soccer." Nope. In fact there are more english speaking countries use Soccer than football.
Joe Keeper
I think it would be negative press to switch to "football" over here. Theres too many conflicts with CFL and NFL football, as the game is so huge here. It should be judged bassed oni what the majority of people in the country call it. If that is somday football, then by all means make the switch.
The Ref
We better reserve a domain name just in case.
Juby
I think too many people (not talking about this board) care way too much about a simple synonym.
Scott
while it is adding another layer of pedantic concern to the whole debate, how about CAFA (Canadian Association Football Association)?

BrennanFan
I think that if there is ever a real change in the way our national program is run, (ie getting the volunteer board out of there and having professionals run the show with real govt and private funding) then the drastic name change to football would be apropriate. Bxl Boy
Let's switch the leisure of soccer for the sport of football Canadian Football Federation (Is football canadian federation acceptable in english, so we could have fédération canadienne de football in french and FCF for both languages ?) Gordon
This is a non-issue for me. We should worry more about the state of the game in Canada. Soccer is what the game is called here. I say we should build on that.

Jarrek
Resistant to change, just like the CSA. The old boys!
Richard
Change just for the sake of change is worthless, it has nothing to do with resistance or the 'old boys'. Changing the name may please a few purists but will not fix what is wrong with administration of he game in Canada.
