loyola
How can we start our GC preparation now? Our players are all with their clubs in Europe or in the MLS. Haiti can afford that since most of their players are in North America. Haiti will be a good test for us. I'm just hoping for a 2 weeks training camp prior to the tournament start with a friendly and some scrimmages against NCAA teams.
jpg75
Wow, this is like the SNL lowered expectations skit. First, read this: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=11286554&postcount=13 edit: Haiti scored their goal in 2nd half injury time, so they were not bunkering to hold a lead. Second of all, we're talking about El Salvador here. These guys have been in a rough spot for going on a decade now. Ever since Diaz Arce, Cienfuegos got old and were not replaced. Let's see how Haiti do against Honduras....

sj
at this stage results does not matter the fact that they are able to secure those games in bundles is certainly giong to make then a stiffer opposition for the gold cup and obviously carry over in the yrs to come. jpg75
The Hondurans are pissed, they were leading 1-0 on a Pavon goal (they really should be looking at younger players) and then squandered it. Apparently they made alot of stupid defensive mistakes... http://www.laprensahn.com/deportes_n...7&t=1177048800

Winnipeg Fury
Considering our complete lack of preperation and the aftermath of the coach-hiring fiasco (in which even Hart is sounding frustrated), Canada will be very lucky to progress from our group. Haiti will play Mexico in one semi-final on May 27th. Why can't Canada do this sort of thing? A four teamn Canada Cup would be a great way to guarentee a few games a year. We did have a few Canada Cups back in the 90's, but the last one took place in '99 i believe. I don't think attendance panned out the way they had expected. It was Canada, Guate, Iran...might have been only 3 teams. And the '97(?) version had Chile and N. Ireland, so 3 in that one too. I think we'll probably see something like this happen in the next couple of years...

Winnipeg Fury
14/5/2007 - 18:08(EST) Medford announces his Gold Cup squad Costa Rica coach, Hernán Medford, summoned today the 23 players who will dispute to the Gold Cup of the The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). In the press conference, Medford emphasized that all the players called fulfill the demand “to be match ready” and that they can adapt correctly to the 3-5-2 formation that has used during career as coach. Only four players who play abroad appear on the list: defender Pablo Chinchilla, of the Altach of Austria, midfielders Bryan Ruiz and Randall Azofeifa of Gent of Belgium, and Sion of Switzerland striker Alvaro Saborío. Of the 23 players, a total of 11 were on the of Germany 2006 roster: goalkeepers Jose Francisco Porras and Wardy Alfaro; defenders Harold Wallace, Leonardo González, Michael Umaña, Jervis Drummond and Gabriel Badilla; midfielders Azofeifa, Walter Centeno and Carlos Hernandez; and striker Saborío. Forward Rolando Fonseca, top scorer of “the ticos” with 46 goals, joins the team. He played in World Cup South Korea and Japan 2002. Gian-Luca
Well, no doubt it will be a strong squad, but on paper it doesn't seem like one that can't be beat by our best team. Of course, we'll actually have to see if we call our best team & when we call them.
