brodycheese
Johntv says "Seen many other examples and that's why i believe so much in our guys, because I saw it.In the beginning I had some very strong misgivings about the Canadian skill level but after seing Dero killing my team I realized that we do have very skilled players, just not the coaching level that would satisfy these guys." Ok so I've heard this over the past couple of years about our sub-par coaching in Canada. Are we referring to the youth or late teens or national teams? Are we referring to the u-14 in various provinces? And more importantly: If I'm a youth coach, where do I get the best drills and tactical knowledge to reach this "coaching level"? Any book recommendations? Videos? suggestions? I've coached u-14 local teams and indoor soccer in NB, I'm not going to rest on my laurels, I'd like to see some people make suggestions as I'm sure that would help challenge our kids. Richard
Does your provincial association not offer coaching development and training programs you could attend? That would be where I'd go first.

Juby
Have any of our coaches made it through that dutch coaching school? (The one thats a requirment for the epl)
brodycheese
Yeah but I'm thinking more like literature that deals with tactics, drills, etc. Like has arsene wenger ever written a book on coaching? Or any of the other top coaches, that's worth reading for insight that you don't generally get from the usual coaching courses offered by our provincial associations

bettermirror
the thing is though - coaching isn't just knowing drills. it's insight into the game. understanding the nuance of situations. setting player expectations and having the ability to demand this level of your players, and bring them up to the necessary level to satisfy this. coaching is understanding the coaching points, not just knowing them. all of these links are great starts though for sure! like players, coaches must practice and develop - attend conferences, courses, and seminars. Richard
Some people are cut out to be good or even great coaches, others should go do something else. Not everybody can coach :-)

Not everybody can coach :-) I agree, but we don't want to discourage anyone though. The way soccer is structured here, we need 'coaches' even if they are just supervisors. Otherwise 'lil Bart' has no team.
Richard
I didn't mean to be discouraging at all, more so reassuring to those who feel inadequate or ill-equipped.
