Guest Ed
Nik Ledgerwood in training with 1860 (media were all over new signing Josh Wolff). Looks like it's warmer in Calgary than in Munich.
Guest Ed
FC Kaiserslautern start the push for promotion as they sign Frenchman Gregory Vignal from RC Lens, a left back (competition for Josh Simpson).
frank
The new man for Kaiserslautern should cover the position of our young talented player Fabian Schönheim. He used to play the defense part in the chain. Josh played more in the ofense. Hopefully he can link to his good start into the season, he has the talent to help us playing first division next year. Guest Ed
Nik Ledgerwood came on in the 66th minute for 1860 in yesterday's 1-0 loss to CD Tenerife in Tenerife, the location of their winter break camp.
frank
Josh Simpson is very frustrated at the moment. He has an inflammation of his hamstring, which does not allow him to work with the rest of the group. As next friday the second half of the season starts, it doesn´t look good for him... Guest Ed
Kevin McKenna and Energie Cottbus got by Dynamo Minsk 3-1 in Antalya Turkey yesterday and will meet the winner of today's match between Fenerbahce Instanbul and ADO Den Haag in Sunday's final. Big Kev set up the 2nd (game winning) goal putting his head on to a free kick and setting up Radu for the goal. Some pics at the fcenergie.de site but they don't seem to link. frank
Big Kev and Cottbus lost the final of the Antalya Cup 3:4 after penalties against Fenerbahce Istanbul. He was sent of in minute 88 for his second yellow card. Daniel Imhof played 90 minutes for VfL Bochum in a friendly against second division team Fürth. They won it 2:
Desigol
I wonder why Celtic didn't sign McKenna as cover for Balde as opposed to the Cup tied for Europe Pressley?
frank
I just read that FC St. Pauli (3 League Germany) is testing Canadian U23 international Riley O’Neill from Kentucky University in one of their friendly games this week http://www.fcstpauli.de/sp/pages/navi/navigation_saison.php?we_objectID=1507&pid=
Guest Ed
Nik Ledgerwood has been loaned out from 1860 Muenchen to fellow Bundesliga 2 team Wacker Burghausen until the end of the season. Part of this deal is a contract extension till summer 2009. The loan was explained by team director Stefan Reuter: "Nikolas is a player with great potential, as he impressively showed in the training camp in Tenerife. He was hurt and just came back from a long layoff. For his further development, it is important to get playing time. He could not get this with us in the current situation to the necessary extent. Because we are convinced of his qualities, we extended his contract by two years." Nik goes from a promotion contender to a relegation fight with Wacker Burghausen. As long as he does get to play, it sounds like a good move for the short-term and getting a 2 year contract extension (his was due to expire this summer) shows that 1860 Muenchen have some faith in his progress. Good luck to Riley.
JamesW
Wikipedia says that Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault is a Canadian and plays with FC St. Pauli. This true?
loyola
Yes, JBB is playing with St-Pauli. He has seen some first team action but I think he sees most of his playing time with the second team. He's a starter for our U-20 NT. He was a late selection for the 2005 WYC in Holland.

Guest Ed
After a month or so, the Bundesliga 2 is set to kick off the back round or games for the 2006/2007 season. The Bundesliga 1 teams get to prepare for another week, with the schedule picking up again next weekend. In the Bundesliga 2, FC Kaiserslautern and Josh Simpson are back in action on Friday, with the Roten Teufel away to RW Essen. The kicker preview has Josh out with an Achilles problem. On Sunday, Wacker Burghausen are away to SC Karlsruhe, but Nik Ledgerwood is listed as not yet game fit after his long layoff. We'll see if he makes the 18 man squad for the match. frank
Josh in deed will miss the game tonight at Rot Weiss Essen. Since an indoor tournament they played beginning January he sufferes this Achilles problem which did not allow him to work with the rest of the group. As far as I know, he still works with the therapist. My guess, he will miss the next 3-4 games due to this training deficit.
Guest Ed
Nik Ledgerwood will likely be starting in a holding midfield position for Wacker Burghausen this coming Sunday.

frank
Nik had a very good debut as Burghausen lost 2:1 at leader KSC. His both coaches praised him as the person on whom hopes are pinned. http://fussball.sv-wacker.de/index.php?id=505&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=1381&tx_ttnews[backPid]=505&cHash=1d3fa261d2 Josh still is not back with the squad, Kaiserslautern drawed scoreless in a very poor game. Cottbus and Kevin won their last game bevore the end of the winter break 1:0 against Slavia Prag, he went 90 minutes Bochum and Sturm Graz finished 2:2. Daniel Imhof started and played 74 minutes. Looks good for him...
Guest Ed
The Bundesliga 1 is back in action this weekend, with Bayern Munich away to Borussia Dortmund tomorrow as the lead in. Daniel Imhof is expected to be on the bench as VfL Bochum host last place FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday. Vfl Bochum currently sit in 14th place in the Bundesliga, 2 points on top of the 3 relegation spots. Also on Saturday, Kapitan Kevin McKenna and Energie Cottbus welcome Borussia Moenchengladbach in a real 6 pointer, as they occupy 15th place, just 1 spot and 2 points ahead of BM, who are in 16th (16th through 18th are the relegation spots). Kevin has a bit of a knee problem but is expected to start nonetheless. In the Bundesliga 2, Nik Ledgerwood and his loan club Wacker Burghausen kick off the weekend games on Friday as they host FC Koeln. Nik is expected to start once again as a holding midfielder. FC Kaiserslautern do not play until Monday, when they host league leaders Karlsruher SC. They're getting some real winter over there now, as evidenced by 1860's training ground in Munich (Burghausen is also in Bavaria).
frank
although the winter comes over Germany (as always, when the winter break is over) the game in Burghausen will take place. The lawn is free of snow thanks to the volumteers there. Ed, you´re always good informed about the canadiens in Germany:)
Guest Ed
Nik is not on the field for Wacker Burghausen; no sign of him on the bench although info is sketchy on that right now. Good ticker at the FC Koeln site for the game. Burghausen grabbed the lead 10 minutes or so into the 2nd half but FC Koeln have drawn even with 30 minutes to go. Despite some worries earlier this week, Kevin McKenna will be starting tomorrow for Energie Cottbus. A call is out to the fans to come early to the stadium tomorrow and help clear out the snow expected overnight. Congrats to Kapitan Kev, er make that "Koenig Kevin" (King Kevin) named Cottbus's player of the year for calendar year 2006. http://www.fcenergie.de/news/news.php?ID=2929 Kevin is hugely popular in Cottbus, winning the award handily. Bonus, link at bottom of article is to a 12 second clip of Kapitan Kev himself speaking of the promotion season (in German of course).
Guest Ed
Big win for Koenig Kevin and company Saturday as they beat Borussia Moenchen 3-0. Here Kevin is receiving his player of the year award, followed by a pic from the game showing why big Kev is a monster on the pitch for Cottbus:
