Balde out for Season;

Could Devos be the man to do the job for Strachan? After all, he has Scottish experience with Dundee Utd.

Do you really think if he'd stayed with Wigan he would have ever seen anything, but chump minutes in the premiership? Celtic may not have the resources they once did, I'm sure they can attract someone of a higher caliber than Jason DeVos. Hell they could find a better Canadian than Jason DeVos.

If Dion Dublin can play for the Tims, why not Captain Canada?

Sort of tops off the season for Balde. He's been rubbish all year. Half the man he was and I've no idea why. Maybe lingering "should I stay or should I go" head aches.

Strachan's in a tough way in a lot of areas and centre half is the biggest one. He'll be buying come January, but who is anyone's guess. Pressley is my bet. Just 'cause he can be got in traditional Celtic fashion (ie, on the cheap or better still FREE!). That and he's been an off-again on-again target by the fans at Celtic Park for years. If O'Neil wasn't biased against Scotts (and Balde hadn't worked out as well as he did for a period) I'm sure Elvis would have been wearing hoops long ago.

It isn't going to be Jason de Vos though. Not a chance. Coca-Cola Championship to Champion's League? I doubt it.

Pressley looks to be on the verge of signing with Charlton.

It likely wont be jason devos, but saying Coca cola championship to Champions League is a stretch is quite silly. Look at Miller, one of Celtics top strikers. He went from Wolves to Celtic. I believe Naylor also signed straight out of the CCC and into Celtics starting eleven.

I see the point your getting at, disagree, but know where your going with it. And don't get me wrong, I Like Miller, he's scored a pile of goals for Wolves but isn't scoring a pile for Celtic so maybe not the best example.

I don't think Strachon has his heart set on the type of player who can perform at the CCC and day-to-day SPL level. Think his ambitions are a little higher and they have to be for Celtic to advance anywhere in Europe. And I don't think a Kenny Miller level of player is going to take them there. (That brace against Benfica notwithstanding).

Don't remember where Naylor signed from. Like him though. Will give you that he's got an upside to him but then he's younger than De Vos by at least a few years I'd have to guess.

I agree that Strachan not only should but must look for someone capable of performing not only in the SPL but also in Europe.

The problem is finances. While Celtic are a Big club with a massive fan base, they still do not have the finances of many of what most people would deem "smaller" EPL sides.

Strachan will very often need to dip into the likes of the CCC in order to find the players he feels capable of making that jump up, as opposed to players that have already astablished that they can.

There are players capable of making the jump into the higher leagues (including Europe) in the CCC they just need the chance. Obviously, somtimes these players wont be able to make that jump but due to financial restrictions, Strachan must decide who he feels will be able. Seol, Doyle, Sidwell, Oster, and well most of Reading have made that jump up look effortless. So why pay much more for a player who is succeeding in the top leagues, when you can pay far less for a player you feel is fully capable of doing so and just hasnt had the stage to do so yet.

To contradict my own post where I claimed Pressley would sign with Charlton, it appears he has confirmed for Celtic meaning that no matter what kind of wishful thinking Devos to Celtic was, it won't happen now.

Wouldn't Pressley be cup tied in Europe? Hearts played in the CL Qualifiers and the UEFA Cup 1st Round.

Pressley is most definitely cup tied, but he will be invaluable to them down SPL stretch run.
