Newcastle have a 3-1 lead over tottenham a third into the game. If they maintain this maybe Edgar might get his first sub in.

Was just going to say much the same thing. Especially with all the injuries that the Toon backline has suffered, there should be some extra incentive to give one of the defenders a little extra rest and give Edgar a little bit of Premiership football. Garbage-time would be a perfect opportunity.

In today's action:

As mentioned above, Edgar an unused sub for Newcastle. No sign of Stalteri in the 3-1 Newcastle win over Spurs.

De Vos goes 90 with Peters coming on in the 83rd in Ipswich's 1-0 loss to Stoke.

Hume plays 90 for Leicester in a 0-0 draw with Cardiff.

No Pesch for Derby (nil nil with Burnley). And Bircham comes on in the 70th for QPR who hold on for a 1-0 win over Barnsley.

Rayner on the bench for Lincoln City, 2-1 over Peterborough.

Hastings plays 90 for ICT in a 0-0 draw with Dunfermline.

Dodds stays on the bench for Killie. Probably a good place to be in a 3 red card, 2-1 loss to Motherwell.

Both Friend and Johnson begin the match on the bench for Heerenveen, home to Excelsior (currently in the 1st half). Wagenaar on the bench for ADO Den Haag against NAC Breda.

Jono DeGuzman plays 90 and Feyenoord hang on to win 3-2 at home to Sparta in the Rotterdam derby.

Will Johnson subs on in the 87th and Friend in the 89th of a 2-0 home win over Excelsior.

Wagenaar on the bench as ADO steal a point with a 2-2 tie at NAC Breda.

I watched Jonathon play vs PSV (well caught first half and bit of the second anyway).

I was surprised at how often the entire team seems to look to directly to jonathon in and around the box. Very often the striker (christeas or somethign like that) would pull wide and jd2 would be come through the middle and be targeted for numerous balls knocked into the box. The surprising thing about this is how he is also quite often the player who drops deepest to recieve the ball from the centre half or full backs. He will be in a similar position in order to break up plays as well, yet he still always seems to be invovled in the play in the oppositions final third.

A lot of his play looked very raw (as he was a bit careless with a playing a few balls sometimes), but you could see that he was very much one of the go to guys for feyenoord.

I had not seen much more than highlights before so i have to admit his overall play was more than jsut a little impressive to me.

Heres hoping he does decide to play with his brother for the MNT. Would also be great if he joined up with our Under 20s for the world cup next summer.

I think with a good performance in the U20 WC, especially as it is in Canada, could be a great springboard for further development and much needed mainstream media coverage of the beautiful game throughout the country. It can show people both at home and in the media that its not just south americans and europeans who can play, but we can too.

Jono de G sets up first goal as Feyenoord beat Rotterdam rivals Excelsior 3-1, they are still 11 of the leaders in Holland.

That Marcina goal was the third in a 3-1 win, coming in the second half at home vs. Queensland Roar.

Just want to say that I think the Will Johnson goal is a big deal, he has worked himself off the reserve squad, onto the first team bench, and into scoring in top flight Holland in quite a short period. With some adaptation questions he has overcome well, considering his last club for any period of time is Chicago Fire Reserves. Good work Will.

3 Rotterdam clubs in the top flight?

I did not know Excelsior was Rotterdam, just the article I read said it was a cross-town derby. Excelsior is third from last and Sparta goes up and down, so this must be a bit exceptional.

Maybe this a dumb question, but I really don't know: what is the second strongest team in Amsterdam?

Both Rotterdam sides promoted last season, after a long stretch of only one in the top flight. There aren't any Amsterdam sides beside Ajax in the top two tiers; Haarlem in the Eerste Divisie (second tier) is probably geographically closest (15 minute train ride from Amsterdam Centraal).

Thanks on the Amsterdam query. That would suggest that Ajax is not as strong a club as I had thought, since any side which has a monopoly in the capital and largest city should be strong. It is a sort of given, especially in a football nation like Holland.

And it is different than Paris SG, which is a more recent invention anyways, it has a lot of history. But no local rival, I find that very odd.
