bettermirror
Ronnie O'Brien is Irish. Any word on where Kennedy Owusuh-Ansah will be? I thought he had a presence and upside with the u20's which will serve him very well. Signing as a 16 year old (17 now?) with an MLS roster would be ideal as he could play with the First Team, Reserves, and Youth Team. Players I'd like for the Developmental Roster which are on our u20 team, in no order: 1. Nana Attakora-Gyan 2. Massimo Di Ioia 3. Kent O'Connor 4. AJ Gray 5. Shane Lammie 6. Stefan Leslie 7. Stephen Lumley 8. Christian Nunez 9. Kennedy Owusu-Ansah Except for Stefan Leslie they are all NTC players, and either in Ontario or Quebec - thus "relocating" to Toronto wouldn't be an issue. Or is this impossible because they are "youth internationals"????

He does have a green card though, so 'technically' he counts as a yank. "Youth Internationals" just means young foreign players.
David C.
Isn't Dyachenko a "developmental player"? I'm a bit confused by all these designations but his MLS status is listed as "DEV", as opposed to Nagamura's "SYI". http://web.mlsnet.com/players/roster.jsp?club=t280
JamesW
Hey MM2, this could be very useful to me. Would you mind putting the nationality of each player (except of course the ones listed under Canadian and American) into the list?

bettermirror
ya cross off KOA as bringing him back from germany is a non-starter. It just sorta makes sense to bring in the NTC players from the region into a club setting to train together in such a structured environment (and not have to pay for the privilege)
An Observer
Kent O'Connor is with 1860; KOA is with Hertha; Stefan Leslie is with Vancouver; and Di Ioia is with Montreal so I doubt any of them will sign with Toronto. Nana Attakora-Gyan has also been on trial in Europe; as has Christian Nunez. From your list, I would think the best chances are Lumley, Gray and Lammie....and possibly Attakora-Gyan if he does not sign abroad. Would not be surprised to see Nunez with the Impact if he does not sign abroad.
bettermirror
Having checked, how can Leslie have played 5 games for the Whitecaps this season and still be university elligible? Whitecaps pay each and every player. Is it best for Nunez and Di Ioia to stay with Montreal or join TFC? Di Ioia/Nunez get quality first team minutes with the Impact? If so, I'd say yes stay until ready to move up to MLS.
An Observer
I think Montreal has a pretty good environment for player development. I would be tempted to stay there for a year or two to get more professional experience before giving the TFC a try. But it really comes down to the players ambitions and what TFC if anything will offer them.

However, he is still just 19 and possibly going to school in Montreal. 2007 will see the U20s together prepping and for the tournament for all of June (at least) and then tournament in July. Montreal *needs* to start some youth team program, which they have hinted might come with the new digs.

MM2
Stephan Leslie played with Trinity Western University in 2006. CIS rules are a lot more lax then NCAA on players playing professional in the off-season. Did anyone see him play at the CIS finals in Edmonton? A number of CSL players play college and university soccer in Ontario. quote:Originally posted by Thistle Having checked, how can Leslie have played 5 games for the Whitecaps this season and still be university elligible? L.T.
Nik Budalic lead the Lynx in scoring a while back and then played for Laurier. As long as you sign an amateur contract, you are still eligible for CIS

As long as you sign an amateur contract, you are still eligible for CIS Basically this is it, you can play if you do not now have or never have had a professional contract. What happens in fact, in many of these cases, is that players are paid over and above any expenses compensation allowed on an amateur contract. Certainly not living salaries, but something, something to help, semi-pro.
Rocket Robin
http://22066.vws.magma.ca/06tfc001.htm Maybe Sasa Viciknez, MVP with Serbian White Eagles of the CSL in 2006. (I'd say that would probably depend on whether he counts as a domestic player or not).

Rocket Robin
Well if he could score 23 goals like last year or at least half that in MLS as freekick/cornerkick man. Just let him have a try out although I think the difference if he'd count as a domestic player or an import.
bettermirror
well obviously they'd want him if he could score 23 goals in the MLS!!! However, that's suggesting the CSL is on par with MLS and it very much isn't!
soccer123
I agree with Robin that Toronto FC should take a look at the Serbian White Eagles (SWE) forward Viciknez. I have watched some of their games and honestly the SWE team played very good soccer this year. With famous coaches, experienced European players, young local prospects, the team attracted 2000-3000 soccer fans each game. There are also some other players that deserve to be seen by Toronto FC. Players like defender Medic and much younger attacking midfielder Alex Braletic. Braletic is already in NTC program and have played for team Canada at Francophone Games. He would be a good candidate for Toronto FC development roster with other NTC players already mention here: 1. Nana Attakora-Gyan 2. Massimo Di Ioia 3. Kent O'Connor 4. AJ Gray 5. Shane Lammie 6. Stefan Leslie 7. Stephen Lumley 8. Christian Nunez 9. Kennedy Owusu-Ansah

It wouldn't hurt to give him a tryout, however at his age (32) and unless he has landed immigrant status he would have to win one of the three remaining International spots on the Senior roster. If salary Cap becomes an issue, he might be a good fit as the 18th man. Alex Braletic, however could be a prospect for a developmental roster spot. Here is how I see the 10 Developmental slots being filled: 1-2 (From CIS/CSL/open tryouts/Ex-Lynx/Whitecaps/Impact) 1-2 (From Canadians playing NCAA) 1-2 (Generation Adidas/other NCAA draft picks) 4-7 (From Canada's U-20 pool)

Late answer, but here it is nonetheless: Di Ioia played fairly often for a 19-year old rookie forward, logging 516 minutes in 15 games, including 5 as a starter. 1 goal, 1 assist with 2 yellow cards. His most memorable moment, unfortunately, was the goal he *didn't* score at CCR against the Whitecaps. http://whitecapsfc.com/multimedia/video/?gallery=USL+Championship+Semifinal+-+Vancouver+vs+Montreal At 40 seconds. PS: What a fricking disaster trying to find those highlights. The USL has really regeressed compared to 2005 with regards to posting accessible video highlights of every game.
