I guess the draft adds fuel to the rumour that Ronnie O'Brien will be coming to Toronto from Dallas. Toronto passed on drafting any players from Dallas. And Dallas probably had the best available talent for the draft.

According to Sean Keay: O'Brien for Serioux :o and Kreis back to RSL for an allocation.

O'Brien for Serioux confirmed (plus a 2nd round draft pick to Dallas)

(and Dallas gets to keep Chris Gbandi). I like the acquistion of O'Brien, just too bad that Serioux had to be the bait.

Fans are already flocking to the stadium, Nolando. Season ticket sales are going tremendously well. 7000 seems to be the latest ballpark figure on that and space is rapidly running out in the southside supporters' section months before a ball is even kicked.

Fantastic momentum, BBTB, I agree.

Our Vancouver contingent is insanely jealous, as we well should be. Just thinking over the longer term, which in the case of TFC might even mean the course of a single season. I sincerely hope that MLSE can see past the initial rush and realize that it will take a special product (a balance of quality and players that Torontonians will pay to watch)to keep a marketable club in Toronto over the long run. The Serioux move makes me scratch my head as I see him as more marketable than Jim Brennan in a lot of soccer circles in Ontario. A cool and talented, well spoken visual minority who happens to be Canadian and who can throw the ball halfway across the pitch should have been the kind of player that MLSE and the MLS would want to have in Toronto. Contrast that with a pitch half full with whitebread US college kids who nobody's ever heard of. That might work in the CFL, but I don't think thats going to sell in Toronto.

And before you say that I poohpoohed the former Lynx boys coming home as not particularly marketable, I would say that by far Serioux would be easier to connect to the TFC brand than say Pozniak or Braz or the like, Brennan included.

I do sincerely hope that TFC works out well and that its wild success spreads across the country to engulf Montreal and Vancouver in MLS bids too. With any luck I will be at a game next summer while visiting Ontario. But, just as we do here regularly rapping on the MNT, I am not going to shy away from some healthy criticism or be branded a spoilsport just because I point out what seems to me to be obvious.

Good points. However I wouldn't worry too much about losing Serioux's marketting potential, assuming that DDR is coming home. (Dwayne being, obviously, talented, well-spoken, Canadian, and a visible minority as well, plus he's a more talented marquis-type offensive guy with lots of skill and flash, and his Caribean family roots will play well in the Toronto market).

I agree that the Serioux thing is strange. As for Dero I would say there is no way unless he finds that he isn't wanted in Europe. Though rumours say last time he received a premiership offer and another manager resigned when denied the chance to sign him. Europe is definately his first choice, it's now or never.

It may be that the marketing strategy is simply to put a strong team on the field. I think Mo has said as much. Could also be that Serioux just doesn't fit into Mo's plans. I was a little surprised that Serioux and Andy Williams didn't end up here, but I guess with a handful of Canadian internationals being announced next week, TFC didn't need to sign them to get the domestic numbers up, either. From what little I know of MLS players, the roster does look good, so far. I'd have loved for Adrian to come home, but you can't have everything.

What in the world makes you think DDR will possibly be going to Toronto?

Perennial MVP candidate, fan favourite in Houston. There's no way they are going to be charitable and hand over Dwayne just because he's Cdn.

I think TFC made a poor decision trading away Serioux, no and's, if's or but's.

While I think DDR might not be in the cards for now - I seriously think that trader Mo might get Serioux back and Jazic both before this is all done.

They just finalized two more of the trades...

Sweet merciful crap! There's some wonderful potential here for Vancouver fans to hate Toronto even more!

All they have to do is select Chivas GK Preston Burpo (the infamous Seattle Sounders Schnoz) and LA Galaxy backup GK Josh Saunders (current property of the Portland Timbits, and infamous for his post-season drunk driving arrest a few years back).

Saunders hates the Southside because we jingle our car keys every time he goes to field a ball! lol

Johmmy ! You Miserable F**K You've Captured the Spirit !!!

Long Live NewCastle United.

I think having Canadians on other MLS teams is good for the WC team. The more Canadians on other teams than TFC the more Canadians can be brought back to Canada. Of course our best players should continue to paly at the highest level they can attain (Europe). At first I was a little upset that Serioux was traded but the bottom line is we need as many players as we can playing at the highest level in NA. Our preparation and qualifying games can only benefit (IMHO).

I have a feeling that mo and serioux dont get along, so i doubt serioux will be on tfc anytime soon, and i think the deal was great getting one of the best wingers inthe mls.

I just kinda hope jazic stays in la aswell

Well I concede they did indeed get a very good player in the exchange but am surprised they do not have Serioux and/or Williams in a Toronto jersey at the end of it all.

"Toronto also moved New York Red Bull Midfielder Danny OfRourke, and Kansas City Goalkeeper Will Hesmer who were both traded to Columbus in exchange for a partial allocation.

An allocation is a fixed sum of money that a club can use to acquire new players."

It's hard to argue with detractors who say that the MLS runs itself like a curious little socialist nation at best, or at worst like a virtual reality version of a regular free-market league. If they end up surviving over the long run, as it looks like they may well do, then I guess North American soccer will be all the better for it though.

Serioux is not someone worth fretting about. Just an average player with one notable talent, that being the ability to throw in the ball like a rocket launcher. His throw-ins are definitely impressive.

O'Brien is top-notch. Serioux isn't. This was a good trade.

All those allocations they got from the other trades will come in handy as they attempt to lure other Canucks home from Europe.

huh? I can honestly say that serioux at his best has been one of the most creative ball getters I've ever seen. I dont think his dribble matches his close quarters ball control and enthusiasim.

Well said. Serioux is a decent MLS player, but nothing special. In O'Brien you have the best right winger in MLS.

Of the players currently on TFC's roster, I suspect only a few are likely to stay. In my mind, three with the highest probability of staying are:

Jim Brennan - Canadian and used for TFC marketing up to now.

Paulo Nagamura - designated a SYI (U25) with TFC has an allocation of 5? that declines in 2008. Nagamura being a 1983 (birth year) graduates to a Senior International at that time if he is good enough. If not, TFC can let him go then. He also, as a Brazilian, would be useful marketing to the Portuguese communities in the Toronto area. Has anyone noticed that TFC's colours are very similar to SPFC's colours (Arsenal's too for that matter)? Nagamura should feel at home.

Rod Dyachenko - designated a developmental player.

The others, even O'Brien, could be packaged for the right deal.
