In the Bundesliga 1, another strong game from Kevin McKenna today as Energie Cottbus draw 0-0 away to VfL Wolfsburg. No sign of Daniel Imhof as VfL Bochum get an important away result as they come back to draw Hertha Berlin 3-3.

Kent O'Connor stays on the bench as 1860 Muenchen amateurs fight to a 1-1 draw with their arch-rivals from Bayern Munich in the Regional League South.

Maycoll Canizales is subbed out in the 70th minute yesterday as FC Oberneuland draw 0-0 with SV Meppen. The point moves them into first place in the Oberliga Nord, with the VfL Wolfsburg amateurs looking to regain the lead if they hang on and win today.

I saw half of the Cottbus-Bremen game. McKenna did play very well. I hope Hart watched that game too because I think Cottbus uses him very well. Bremen is a very good side and in my opinion, the most entertaining side in the Bundesliga because of their attacking style.

Don't get GolTV in the 'Peg (curses!) but got a look see of him with Hearts a few back, probably a half dozen times but almost always at forward.

Honestly I don't think his problem is speed. Maybe with the current bunch, but not a couple of years ago. He's got the same go as de Vos in my opinion and no one ever complained about JDV being a door stop. His problem is maybe throttle. Takes too long to get up to speed if you follow me.

But whichever way, apparently it's not such a negative that he can't play top flight German/Scottish football under different managers is it?

And people forget his leaving Hearts had everything to do with dollars, cents, and the politics of the time and little to do with his qualities. An excellent move though it turns out.

Victor Oppong anchors the SV Waldhof Mannheim defense as they draw 2-2 with league leaders SV Heidenheim in the Oberliga Baden-Wuerttemberg; Victor's club sits 4th, 7 points off the lead.

Daniel Imhof is still out injured as VfL Bochum host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Friday Bundesliga 1 matchup.

Kevin McKenna and Energie Cottbus will have a real test of their fine home record as they host 3rd place FC Schalke 04 on Saturday. FC Schalke will be looking for the win to move into 1st place over the surprise leaders (the young VfB Stuttgart squad who have a heavyweight tilt with Bayern Munich this weekend) and second place Werder Bremen.

Also tomorrow, Josh Simpson will be on the bench at kick-off as FC Kaiserslautern are away to Kickers Offenbach in the Bundesliga 2. The Rote Teufel are in fourth, just out of the top 3 promotion spots by goal difference.

On Sunday, 1860 Muenchen travel northwest to take on FC Koeln, with Nik Ledgerwood still out. The Munich squad are in 6th place, 3 pts behind Kaiserslautern. American Josh Wolff is on trial / training with Nik's club, who are desperate for more scoring punch. His MLS contract expires at year end.

On Friday in the Regional League North, FC St. Pauli host Rot-Weiss Erfurt (haven't seen much lately of Jonathan Bourgault with either the senior team or the more likely FC St. Pauli II in the Oberliga Nord). On Saturday, Blerim Rrustemi will start with Borussia Moenchengladbach amateurs as they host the other Red/White club in the RLN, Rot-Weiss Ahlen.

In the Regional League South, 1860 Muenchen amateurs (in 12th place on 20 pts) are in action tomorrow as they host KSV Hessen Kassel (in 7th place on 23 pts). Kent O'Connor has been on the bench lately with the Munich club.

Barnburner with VfL Bochum today in the Bundesliga 1, as they take advantage of 10 man Eintracht Frankfurt to come back from a 2-0 deficit to the visitors to score 4 straight. However, Frankfurt are fighting back and it is now 4-3 with just under 15 minutes to go. A win would be huge for Daniel Imhof's team, pushing them out of relegation territory for the first time this season.

I guess not getting called up has its perks as Josh Simpson starts today for FC Kaiserslautern. He is subbed off at the half and his replacement sets up the only goal as FC Kaiserslautern earn a nice 3 pts away from home against Kickers Offenbach to bump MSV Duisburg out for the last promotion spot in the Bundesliga 2.

In the Regional League South, Kent O'Connor stays on the bench again as his 1860 Muenchen amateurs beat up on KSV Hessen Kassel 3-0 (2 insurance goals in the last 10 minutes). The win moves the Munich side into 9th place and very safely middle of the pack as the first half of the season (front round) finishes.

As expected, no sign of Jonathan Bourgault with the full FC St Pauli side as they draw 1-1 with Rot-Weiss Erfurt in the Regional League North today.

In the Oberliga Nord, Maycoll Canizales and FC Oberneuland continue their winning ways, beating VfR Neumuenster 3-1 today to move into a tie with league leaders VfL Wolfsburg on pts but 2nd in the table on goal difference. A loss by the leaders by more than one goal when they take on Altona 93 would put Maycoll's team in 1st place. Maycoll was subbed out of the action today in the 62nd minute with his team up 2-0.

Exciting game today in Cottbus as Kevin McKenna's team goes down 4-2 to visting Schalke 04. Cottbus had managed to tie the game 2-2 as the 1st half came to a close, but the crew from Gelsenckirchen score two 2nd half goals to move into 1st place overall in the Bundesliga.

Young Tomazc Machul has made a few appearances recently for 1860 Muenchen's U19 Junioren-Bundesliga team as a defender. This league is quite a good calibre and proved to be good development league for Nik Ledgerwood and Kent O'Connor to date. According to the team picture captions, Tomasz is the blond kid, 4th player from left in the back row

Daniel Imhof is back on the active 18 man roster for Friday's lone Bundesliga 1 match. VfL Bochum have the tough task of trying to steal a result from the red hot Schalke 04 team. The crowd in Gelsenkirchen should be over 60,000 as Schalke 04 strives to stay ahead of Werder Bremen at the top of the table. VfL Bochum will very likely be back in relegation territory after this 14th round in the Bundesliga 1.

Kevin McKenna and Energie Cottbus are idle until Sunday, when they are away to Bayer Leverkusen. The Cottbus side (tied for 10th overall) looks to have a full squad as they look to stay ahead of Leverkusen (in 12th overall). Kapitan Kev will be hoping that Paul Stalteri's Tottenham Hotspur push Bayer to the limits in today's UEFA Cup clash.

In the Bundesliga 2, Josh Simpson is expected to be on the bench as FC Kaiserslautern host FC Augsburg tomorrow. Josh's team sits in 3rd (the last promotion spot) on 24 pts, 5 behind both Hansa Rostock (2nd) and Karlsruher SC (3rd). FC Augsburg are in 8th on 19 pts.

On Monday, Nik Ledgerwood is still out as far as I know as 1860 Muenchen (5th on 21 pts) host TuS Koblenz (7th on 19pts). Lineups will be confirmed over the weekend.

In the Regional League North, FC St. Pauli are away to Dynamo Dresden on Saturday but Jonathan Bourgault is likely with the amateur side. Also on Saturday, Borussia Moenchengladbach amateurs at the bottom of the table are away to league leaders VfL Osnabrueck. The usual 90 minute man Blerim Rrustemi is not listed with the squad so he is likely out injured.

In the Regional League South, 1860 Muenchen amateurs host Stuttgarter Kickers on Sunday with Kent O'Connor likely on the bench initially.

Costly draw for FC Kaiserslautern today as their 0-0 scoreline with FC Augsburg leaves them dropping out of promotion territory and also losing 2 players to knee injuries. Josh Simpson was not on the bench as far as I can tell, let alone on the field.

No sign yet of Daniel Imhof for VfL Bochum as FC Schalke 04 are comfortably out in front 2-0 at the half.

Congratulations to Jonathan Bourgault as he goes 90 minutes with FC St. Pauli's first team who drop a 3-0 decision to Dynamo Dresden in the Regional League North. Also, Blerim Rrustemi is back again with Borussia Moenchengladbach amateurs who lose 1-0 to VfL Osnabrueck.

Update from yesterday as Daniel Imhof was not dressed in VfL Bochum's 2-1 loss to leaders FC Schalke 04.

Great news today as Nik Ledgerwood comes back into action, playing just the first half (coach's orders) with the 1860 Muenchen reserves against the heavily favoured TSG Hoffenheim. Nik marks dangerous playmaker Capado out of the game in his 45 minutes. 1860 outplayed the opposition and were unlucky to only be up 1-0 when Hoffenheim scored a late equalizer. Kent O'Connor stayed on the bench as the young reserves team earned another unexpected point.

It's not all good news out of Germany. Kevin McKenna and company were soundly beaten 3-1 by Bayer Leverkusen yesterday. The first goal came on a quick counter on an Energie Cottbus corner and the visitors never looked back with Cottbus scoring a goal quite late as small consolation.

However, Nik Ledgerwood was (according to the 1860 official site) to be part of the squad for today's Bundesliga 2 tilt with 1860 Muenchen hosting TuS Koblenz. Nik apparently was not part of the 18 man squad but 1860 had another win today and now are getting back in the race. Both 1860 Muenchen and FC Kaiserslautern will be battling it out for the 3rd promotion spot. (Karlsruhe and Hansa Rostock are well out in front right now, but the season is not yet half over). Here's the standings after round 14 (34 rounds for the season).

Kevin McKenna and Energie Cottbus have an excellent shot at full points on Saturday as they

take on the erratic Hannover 96. Kevin McKenna will lead his team as they look for a home

win in this 6-pointer (Cottbus are in 12th, Hannover 13th - both on 16 pts).

Daniel Imhof is expected to be on the bench as VfL Bochum host the underachieving Hamburger

SV also on Saturday. The knives are out for Hamburg coach Thomas Doll who had his team

in contention for 1st place last season but they now sit one point behind Bochum (both in

relegation territory).

In the Bundesliga 2, Josh Simpson is expected to be on the bench as FC Kaiserslautern are

away to Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday. FC Kaiserslautern are in 4th place and could

leapfrog MSV Duisburg into 3rd with a win over Braunschweig, in last place. Also on

Sunday, 1860 Muenchen have a local derby with hosts SpVgg Unterhaching. Nik Ledgerwood

will likely play with the amateurs this weekend and fight for a spot with the full team over

the next few weeks until the Christmas break. 1860 Muenchen sit in 5th on 24 pts, one point

behind FC Kaiserslautern. Expect a tribute to the long time 1860 coach, Max Merkel, who

passed away this week at the age of 87. He led the Lions to the European Cup final in 1965

and also took FC Nurnberg to the Bundesliga title in the 60's. Good for a quote on most days,

he was a major figure in the early days of the Bundesliga.

In the Regional League North, FC St. Pauli host 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday, with young

Jonathan Bourgault pegged to start the game.

Also on Saturday, Borussia Moenchengladbach amateurs are home to Fortuna Duesseldorf with

Blerim Rrustemi expected to start (he missed last week due to a suspension for accumulated

yellow cards). Moenchengladbach amateurs sit in last place while Dusseldorf are my sentimental

favourite to earn promotion to the Bundesliga 2.

In the Regional League South, Nik Ledgerwood will start in midfield for the 1860 Muenchen amateurs who are away to SV Elversberg on Sunday. Kent O'Connor likely on the bench initially.
