JamesW
Hey all, I have been thinking about making a site where I record radio broadcasts of soccer games that would be avilable to download. What do you guys think about it?
Loud Mouth Soup
I think it's neat, the lawyers might not.
JamesW
Well if I keep it small, there should be little or no problems.
Loud Mouth Soup
Doesn't matter how 'small' a site is, if you steal a broadcast and air it without permission and it's discovered, you're asking for legal papers in front of you. /not being anal, just warning you. JamesW
Help me out here. Why do P2P TV programs, Torrent Trackers, and other things of the like, not have "legal papers in front of" them?
Loud Mouth Soup
Ah, but they do. Many have been shut down, told to remove clips, shows, or movies, or been sued for illegally hosting or showing them. The RIAA just slapped 8,000 more people with lawsuits for file sharing. JamesW
Is there a warning given, asking for the files to be removed? Of do the people get sued right away?
Loud Mouth Soup
Usually. But the RIAA are becoming known for slapping lawsuits on folks without warning. Sports isn't under their domain, though.

JamesW
Does that mean I would be free to do it?
Loud Mouth Soup
RIAA has tried to sue outside the US. But the issue here would be theft of property, in this case, the broadcast of the event. You know, like "This transmission may not be reproduced or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Baseball". In other words, offer to pay MLB a wad of cash per event, and then we'll talk.
JamesW
But chances are I would getting a warning, right?
BrennanFan
Even if you receive a letter saying you will be sued if you dont take the stuff down in 24 hrs, they WILL NOT ACTUALLY SUE YOU IF YOU HAVE NO $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
JamesW
What does that mean? No money from the site or no personal money?

Massive Attack
www.isohunt.com is a great site for movies, music, tv shoes, etc. It is based out of BC. The MPAA (an American movie version of the RIAA) is trying to sue him and get his site shut down. The site is still up and is still great. The Swedish based The Pirate Bay has also been threatened with being shut down. It has been down before, but they are back up again. If you ever want a good laugh, read their page based on legal threats: http://thepiratebay.org/legal
Blue and White Army
Jamit, There already is a soccer torrent site: http://torrents.huntparkinsider.com/ Seems to be down, but that's probably just temporary.
JamesW
That site, as far as I can tell, is only video. My idea was for soccer audio. However, there seems to be very little interest. Because of this, I don't think this site will happen.
Blue and White Army
Jamit, I'm interested, and I have posted audio files on the above site as torrents. There's no point starting up your own site, if you can just feed into a pre-existing one, right?
