Premier football kicked off in Scotland today but neither Dodds nor Hastings made the roster. Both players clubs lost today. Kili going down 4-1 at Celtic Park as Inverness drop all three points at home to freshly promoted St Mirren.

Michael Klukowski started for FC Bruges in their season opener Friday night, a 5-0 win over Le Gantoise with him going 90.

Bruges was in the championship race until late in the season and should have a good shot at the league once again this year.

More Canuck action, some quite interesting:

Josh Simpson has been active in pre-season for Kaiserslautern, who look very strong. He came on m. 57 vs. Liverpool tonight in a match won by the Germans 3-2 in Lichtenstein.

Previously, they beat Werder Bremen in Switzerland on the 25th 3-1 with Josh going the whole way, and also beat the Bahrein national team 2-0 on the 23rd with Josh subbing in 2nd half. Looks like he is fitting in well and I think this club is a good bet for promotion back to top flight.

No Radzinski for Fulham who draw scoreless with Real Madrid in Austria, nor Stalteri for Spurs in their 2-0 win over Cambridge City. Not sure if Pesch figured for Derby who beat Bolton today.

Red Bulls, Dynamo draw in Houston

HOUSTON — Houston Dynamo and the New York Red Bulls were left sharing the spoils after they traded goals four minutes apart midway through the second half and settling for a very tense 1-1 draw at Robertson Stadium.

Chris Henderson scored for the Red Bulls in the 67th minute and Dwayne De Rosario leveled the score after converting a penalty kick in the 70th. A minute later the teams were left a man down each after De Rosario and New York's Danny O'Rourke were sent off after they engaged in a scuffle; O'Rourke had already been shown a yellow card.

The tie is a little step back for Dynamo in their attempt to reach the top spot in the Western Conference, seeing FC Dallas extend their lead earlier Saturday after defeating the Colorado Rapids. The Red Bulls saw their three-game winning streak put to an end, along with their long shutout streak.

The first chance for the home side came in the very first minute of the game. A free kick taken by Brad Davis from the left flank crossed the area and forced Red Bulls goalkeeper Jon Conway to come out of the box to clear the danger.

Moments later Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark tried to catch Conway off guard with a powerful long-range shot, but it went over the bar.

The Red Bulls were limited to trying to stop Dynamo's efforts in the first stages of the game while attempting to capitalize on any defensive error they could find. In the 14th minute Craig Waibel's weak clearance ended in the possession of Henderson, and his shot forced Pat Onstad to clear the ball with his fists.

The first half ended with Dynamo controlling the game, but unable to find a goal that would have given them the peace of mind to face an easy second half. The Red Bulls only had one shot on goal in the first half and seemed to lack offensive ideas as a team. Only individual plays by Amado Guevara showed any danger at times.

But against the run of play, in the 66th minute the Red Bulls found a spark of genius. Guevara connected with Chris Henderson behind Dynamo's defensive line, and from the corner of the goal area Henderson beat Onstad low and inside the far post for the first goal of the night.

Dynamo's reaction was immediate. After a counterattack by the local squad, O'Rourke fouled Ricardo Clark as he raced into the area, before Clark was able to get off a shot. Referee Tim Weyland didn't hesitate and pointed to the penalty spot.

De Rosario stepped straight into the shot and knocked it to Conway's left, leaving the goalkeeper no chance as he equalized the score. It was the first goal allowed by the Red Bulls in 397 minutes, since a 2-1 loss to FC Dallas on July 8.

One minute after the goal, the confrontation between De Rosario and O'Rourke ended with both players ejected from the game. De Rosario was issued a red card and O'Rourke saw his second yellow.

Even though they were both a man down, both teams tried to find a winner. The only real chance came from Dynamo striker Brian Ching, but Conway made the save and the teams finished with the draw.

Canadian boot forces tie

HOUSTON (AP) - Canadian national team midfielder Dwayne De Rosario scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to lift the Houston Dynamo to a 1-1 tie with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.

Red Bulls midfielder Chris Henderson gave New York a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute after taking a sideline pass from Amado Guevara and scoring from five yards out.

New York's Danny O'Rourke tripped Houston's Ricardo Clark just a minute later to give Toronto native De Rosario his free penalty kick from 10 yards out.

Barely a minute after that, O'Rourke got into a shoving match with De Rosario and both men received red cards and were ejected from the game. O'Rourke, who was on caution from his previous game, will now have to sit out the next two games.

Brian Ching nearly won the game in the final seconds for Houston when he took a pass from Brian Mullan and kicked it in from seven yards out. But Ching was ruled offsides and the game ended seconds later.

The game drew a crowd of 10,334 at Robertson Stadium.

Houston (8-4-8), which had a 10-match unbeaten streak broken Wednesday in a 1-0 loss at Colorado, remained in second place in the Western Division.

Goalkeeper Jon Conway had a string of three straight shutouts stopped for the Red Bulls (5-6-9), who remained in third place in the East.

Hanwell Town 1-6 Hampton & Richmond Borough

Hampton striker Elliott Godfrey scored two goals and set up a third in this routing of the non-league side that I support, Hanwell Town. Godfrey came into the match at the beginning of the second half, but left before the end with a twisted ankle. Fellow striker Jon Henry-Hayden started the match, and also came off in the second.

I spoke with both players about doing an interview sometime in the future, and both are interested.

Lars and Occean both played 90. Lars actually had an assist on the 2nd goal as a quite long goal kick by him eluded Lillestrom's defenders and sprung a striker free on goal. Not too bad considering kicking was always his weakness so hopefully he has improved in this area. He had no chance on the Lillestrom goal. Occean had one good chance but his shot deflected off someone over the net. Highlights (in IE) at http://webtv.tv2.no/webtv/fotball/?cmd=event&pos=1-328-14-87461&id=77409

Issey Nakajima-Farran was subbed out m. 77 in Vejle's 4-0 loss to Aalborg. The team played with 10 men half the match, losing the player when down 2-0.

They have lost the first two games of the season, away both to hard teams Brondby and these guys.

Just wanted to update as I saw the highlights (with near goals by Pepe Reina in the midfield after a few injuries 2nd half left them without players), and Josh was playing as an attacking left wing, looked like a 4-3-3 they had. He was very near the play in his team's two last goals, neither of which went through him, as they came back to beat L-pool.

Julian Uccello the first half they defeated Vecchie Glorie 6-1.

Uccello played and scored two goals. Here is the article from the LA Nazione

6-1

FORTE DEI MARMI: Franceschini, Bertolucci, Di Mauro Francesco, Bangura, Castorina, Celi, Rubino, Breschi, Uccello, Gori, Panesi. Nel secondo tempo: Tommei, Ceragioli, Bugliani, Cataffio, Tarantino, Marcarellli, Cerri, Di Mauro Diego, Lombardi, Bertuccelli, Bangura. All. Ciardelli

VECCHIE GLORIE: Devoti, Anquiiletti, Germelli, Reali, Mussi, Ficaia, Cravero, Boni, Villa, Evani, Galli. Nella ripresa sono entrati: Gatti e Buriani.

Arbitro: Linfatici di Viareggio.

Marcatori: 10’ e 23’ Panesi, 17’ e 20’ Uccelli; 45’ Lombardi, 55’ Bertuccelli, 57’ Evani.

Anselmo Santucci

Placentino, Gualdo team apparently withdrew from the C2 division and is starting under a new club name. This year dropping down two category and now in trying to re enter into Serie D or C2 but it looks Like that most likely will be starting in Eccellenza. No word as to any movement on Placentino. All the players contracts have been terminated.

But my best guest he will end up in Monte Sansovino as I always expected it too bad Uccello is not there to enjoy the many victories of this year team in the coming year.

Potential chance for Begovic?

Ashdown out for six weeks

Harry Redknapp is stepping up his search for a goalkeeper after Jamie Ashdown was ruled out for six weeks with a broken thumb.

Ashdown underwent surgery on monday night after hurting the thumb while catching a ball in training.

The injury leaves Dean Kiely and untried youngsters Nick Jordan and Asmir Begovic as the only keepers at the club.

Pompey physio Gary Sadler said: 'Jamie broke the thumb yesterday in training and had the operation last night, which went smoothly.'

Ryan Gyaki came on in the 66th minute in the Blades away draw at Notts County:

Notts Co 0-0 Blades - match report

More than 500 Blades fans made the trip to Meadow Lane but they saw their side held by a battling Notts County outfit.

On a blustery night at the home of Neil Warnock's former club, United created the first chance. With five minutes gone, Unsworth's inswinging free-kick was on target but Pilkington did well to block the effort, despite Hulse hindering his vision.

Ross, regarded as one of the deadball specialists at Bramall Lane and currently on loan at Notts County, wasted a 30-yard free-kick for the hosts and then Quinn fired over for United.

Hulse was working the channels well in the early stages and he created a chance for Webber that was blocked and then the former Leeds striker turned and hit a shot that Pilkington saved low to his right.

United's best chance of the first half arrived on 34 minutes following a foul on Webber. Quinn's free-kick from the edge of the box beat Pilkington but came back off the angle of post and bar, whilst County quickly countered and Kenny parried a shot from Parkinson - the last chance of the half.

Short was replaced by Law at the interval with Armstrong dropping into the defence and the home side made wholesale changes but the first opportunity of the half fell to United with Hulse firing at Deeney.

Webber headed wide from Unsworth's cross and for the home side Mendes fired over and N'Toya went close with a 20-yard overhead kick!

Webber lashed wide following a corner and then Nade robbed Gleeson but had his shot blocked by Hunt. At the other end Martin curled over a free-kick and Craven lacked composure when the ball dropped for him in the penalty area.

There was little for substitute goalkeeper Bennett to do in the closing minutes as United had the better of the closing stages. From Gyaki's cross Hulse displayed a neat touch but fired over and then Geary's long-range effort was well off target.

The final effort, on 87 minutes, was the result of a neat passing move that began in defence. Following's Nade's powerful run, Webber took a touch inside before having his shot blocked by Austin.

United were again without the injured duo of Sommeil and Montgomery, whilst Davis hobbled off midway through the second half, but the remainder of the first team squad are expected to feature in Wednesday's fixture at Scarborough.

Notts Co: Pilkington (Deeney 45), Pipe (Austin 45), McCann (Needham 45), Edwards (Craven 45, White (Hunt 45), Lee (N'Toya 45), Dudfield (Mendes 45), Parkinson (Martin 45), Curtis, Gleeson, Ross (Sheridan 45).

Blades: Kenny (Bennett 75), Geary, Unsworth, Davis (Gyaki 66), Short (Law 45), Armstrong, Ifill (Naughton 84), Tonge, Hulse, Webber, A. Quinn (Nade 66).

Attendance: 2,411

Atiba is out for tonight's Champion's League qualifier against Finnish MyPa-47. He was kicked in the foot in the first game and it looked like he might have broken something, but it turned out to be a blood clot and he'll probably be back in the starting lineup by the weekend. The winner meets Ajax in the 3rd round of qualifying.

As for CL 3rd qualifiying round tie against Ajax, then it should not be forgotten that FCK actually did eliminate Ajax to reach the 3rd round of the UEFA cup in 2001/02.

Ofcuse both teams have improved since then, e.g. the signing of Jesper Grønkjær before this CL qualification clearly make FCK look stronger in attack. Ajax perhaps got more EC experience, but then FCK got the advantage of having already played this important qualifying tie and started their season in the Danish league, while this is not the case for the Dutch.

However, Should FCK lose the tie against Ajax, hen they have still qualified for the 1st round of the UEFA Cup.
