According to a story in the Journal de Montreal, Montreal's venue will be The Olympic Stadium.

The official annoucement will be made on Monday.

Just yesterday I was pondering if they would use Molson Stadium. I felt with turf problem and the Als playing there. I concluded it would have to be the big O.

Now at least we know and I'm confident there will be over 50,000 for each match.

Montrealers are ready and willing.

"Turf problem" at Molson Stadium? I thought the Big Owe still had the old hard AstroTurf.

Okay, if you're sure of 50,000 for every game there... well, let's move the final and opening games from Toronto!

Thanks for the "breakfast chuckle"....I guess it is possible that they might have to resort to a renovated "Big Owe" over CCR as someone else forecast but 50,000 per game [smile]...maybe you were reading Allo Police rather than the J de M....wish it were so, fondly remember watching the Manic play before decent crowds there along with all of the fans releasing chickens and roosters...nice atmosphere

Seriously:

- There will be a new surface, which will be discussed.

- I'm guessing the Big O was chosen because of this year's Olympic anniversary, the end of the debt AND to start getting people thinking about going out East for soccer.

- The roof is due to be changed, which could mean soccer on grass in open air...

- The organizers have in theory been promissed one of Brazil or Argentina should they qualify.

- They hope to get 25k a game.

- It will be the first high-level soccer game at the stadium since 1983!

- No one saw this coming.

Good luck to them but it could be disastrous. 10k in a 50+k facility would not be a good thing (which is why Skydome would not be a good facility either.

I hope they pull it off.

They are hoping for 25k for matchdays (so doubleheaders and knock-out rounds). These guys know how to distribute tickets and there's already some hype for the tourny, so I think it is definitely possible. However, if the roof is still up there, I can see that as a big minus on crowds.
