Bill Ault
Fury Buried By Avalanche First regular season loss in a year. [June 25th , 2006. OTTAWA, ON] Two late goals gave the expansion Hamilton Avalanche an unexpected victory over the previously unbeaten Ottawa Fury in Hamilton this evening. Goals from Heather McDougall in the 84th and 90th minutes were the undoing of the Fury who had not lost in regular league play since losing at home 1-0 to the Vermont Voltage in June of 2005. The Fury out shot the Avalanche by 14-8 but were unable to beat goalkeeper Stacy Van Boxmeer who earned the shutout. The Fury are on the road next Wednesday to play the Laval Comets and return home on July 1st to play the unbeaten Toronto Lynx at Keith Harris Stadium at Carleton University. Kick off is 6:00 PM. On Tuesday July 2nd, the Fury take on Everton FC :Ladies from England at Keith Harris; Kick off is 6:30 PM.

hamiltonfan
There are a handfull of womens teams in Hamilton that have played and beat the avalanche, alot of much better teams. The Avs are really young team, a few girls i know are much better than most avalanche players but just dont want to play because of the travel involved. hopefully in the next few years the avalanche will truely show Hamiltons top female soccer stars and start scouting more. Give the girls a reason to play for them...$$$$

Well, the Avalanche seem to be turning this into a very successful expansion season. After a rough start, they put together a few wins against weak teams, and have now even earned a draw against what appears to be a very good team and a win over what is known to be one of the best teams in the league. Perhaps that will motivate some of those other players to join them next year. quote:Give the girls a reason to play for them...$$$$Players cannot be paid in the W-League.
