RKC legt Canadese spits met Welsh roots vast

6/4/2006 13:10

Im from Holland so I obviously dont know who he is but he has played at youth level both for Canada and Wales. He has made 9 youth appearances for Canada scoring 3 times. RKC is in Holland a mid-table club so he is going to play for a decent club.

Dylan Hughes did make several appearances for Canadian Youth teams, but never in a situation where he would be capped. It has been suggested that his preference is to play for Wales, but not sure if that has ever been confirmed.

He did write an email to a Voyageur stating he hoped to play for Canada one day, but it appears that, possibly, "a better offer came along"? A theme becoming all too familiar lately.

I don't think he has been officially capped by either nation. Last year he was one of our better prospects at striker but many of his competitors have improved while his career has stalled. Even were he to commit to Canada I don't think he would be a sub at striker. He might get a call for a friendly to take a look but I think he is well down the depth chart at the moment.

Gentlemen I am very dutch so i think i understand these Dutchmen and let me tell you our Canadians boys are subject to the most superb and highest of technical education in soccer. It is amazing and so sincere and so full of commitments it is a beaty but the Dutch don't know any better. They are amazing, but don't tell them, they won't understand, but in the meantime our guys are the beneficiarey. If you think I am pro Dutch which I am wait till these guys tell you who they are. It is beatifull and more. I better shut up.

He may be 'well down the depth chart', but I'm (as I'm sure you are) still hoping we can cap him.

It's early days for all these kids, and we need all the depth possible.

John is just living prove that even the Dutch aren't perfect, however, I'm the complete opposite kind of Dutchman, humble in every way. [}:)]

Where's the joke?

Unlike you, I have faith in our young Canadian players.

Faith in what? That we are an attractive opponent for countries like Trinidad, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica and El Salvador to draw against in a World Cup qualifying group. Hey, just because my blood is Maple Leaf red, doesn't mean my judgement's clouded by wishful thinking. Internationally speaking our national program is Pathetic, with a capital P as in Pipe. I respect your right to have an opinion that differs. It's okay if you settle for less, it's not okay for me to settle for that standard.
