RS
It seems that Canadian referees are now being added to the pool of available refs for the upcoming MLS season. http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=327736 Apprently they will be fully integrated (ie. they'll ref games in Toronto and the US as opposed to just in Canada like they currently do for USL matches) in 2007, but MLS will likely 'test' the FIFA ranked officials in league matches this year. Richard
From the British Columbia Referees Association website: "BCSRA MEMBER AT MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER (MLS) CAMP Canadian FIFA Referee and Referee Association member Mauricio Navarro has been invited to the US's Major League Soccer (MLS) pre-season camp. Also invited were the three Ontario-based FIFA officials: AR Amato Deluca and referees Stephen DePiero and Silviu Petrescu. These gentlemen will be officiating in a number of matches this coming MLS season in preparation for the upcoming inaugural season of the Toronto franchise. Mauricio has also been appointed to a semi-final of the CONCACAF Championships Cup later this month. The winner of the Champions Cup will earn a bearth in the FIFA World Club Championship." http://www.bcsra.com/
Elias
SEE, MLS is evil. Canadian refs in the league. What's next? Canadian players in the league. That's what happens when you get in bed with the devil. Shame on you Pipe. Shame.
Cheeta
A bit of fresh blood in the officiating pool isn't going to hurt that league one bit. Not one bit. Okay. One question. If Canadian ref's are in, does that mean the game will be allowing tackling again?
Bates
There won't be any tackling in the league if Mauricio is the quality of Canadian Ref they will be getting!!!
Calgary Boomer
Actually, I think Mauricio is OKAY, but Silviu Petrescu is an arrogant prick who shouldn't be allowed to referee my kids U14 bronze game.
Regs
quote:Actually, I think Mauricio is OKAY...Surely you're joking? WAY too confrontational... no idea on how to manage a game. None.
Calgary Boomer
Maybe I'm confused as to who Mauricio is...I'd have to see a picture. There's another tool out here named Jose Branco. He's usually an assistant...but still completely confrontational for the sake of getting the limelight.
Regs
Believe or not, Mauricio and Branco are best buds I think there's pictures of both of them on the VASRA site: http://www.vasra.ca
Guest Soccrman
quote:Originally posted by Regs Surely you're joking? WAY too confrontational... no idea on how to manage a game. None. completely agree with this. We had the "pleasure" of Maurico TWICE in the 2003 Challenge Cup and he was a real arrogant t*** in both. He even had the nerve to bring a rep to speak for him in a discipline hearing and CSA let him!! complete wanker!!
MM2
"Four referees from Canada also participated in the conference, and Canadian crews officiated two of the six games played in Charleston. With the addition of Toronto to the league next year, it was deemed important that Canadian referees experience the MLS version of the game, which proved to be something quite different from what they were accustomed. In the two games, Canadian officials struggled to control the games and ejected four players, two in each game." http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20060329&content_id=54693&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp Looks like the Canadian Refs had some problems in their first MLS games.
