There's a new Canadian player in Italy, 18 year old Andrew Celenza. He is with a 4th or 5th division team that is run by or affiliated with Udinese. Hopefully Alberto can provide the team name and a report on Sunday's game as Celenza was supposed to dress for that game.

It's confirmed: NFF (the Norwegian FA - not the sharpest pencils in the box) have suspended Rob Friend 2 matches for the red card he received recently in the training match Malde played against Hødd. Friend will miss the first two matches of the Tippeligaen season which starts April 9.

Molde will appeal the decision.

The rules in Norway are that yellow cards received in training matches are wiped out when the season starts, but Friend received a direct red card, and so is subject to a sanction. Still, NFF had some discretion when applying the rule and could have decided not to apply the sanction.

So now NFF have changed their decision; Friend will be suspended from Molde's last pre-season match and their season opener instead of the first two games of the season. Molde have dropped their appeal.

Ryan Gyaki was finally back in action as his Sheffield United Reserves "B" side defeated Hartlepools reserves 3 - 2 (away)

"United introduced Gyaki for the later stages. The Canadian midfielder has been out with a cruciate knee ligament injury since September but looked comfortable in his first match back, especially after coming through a heavy tackle just a moment after coming on"

No Julian de Guzman as Depor came back with two Victor free kicks in the second half to beat Málaga at home. The win, their first at Riazor since early December, puts them back in a UEFA spot.

from the same story:

Head coach Mo Johnston elected to use a 3-5-2 formation against Charleston, as opposed to the 4-4-2 he deployed against D.C. United on Saturday night. Mike Magee moved back to the midfield, while Eddie Gaven played up top. At halftime, Thiago Martins replaced Ante Jazic and played forward, while Gaven moved back to the middle.

It looks like Atiba Hutchinson FC Copenhagen will get tot he Roayl League final, they're currently winning 4-0 at the 63rd minute in the 1/2 final second leg.

Olivier Occean and Lillestrom will play their second game sunday at home (they won the away game 3-1)

A question in relation to reports from the MLS game and from Norway, all in pre-season: I am surprised that players can be suspended for subsequent games in pre-season for drawing double yellows and reds.

Especially when they are not playing otherwise by FIFA rules, are making tons of subs, are playing teams outside their leagues and divisions, and above all are not in official competition at all.

Is this normal? I have never heard of such practices in Spain in fact, and this is why I am asking.

In Norway, yellow cards (even double yellows) do not carry over from one training match to the next. If a player should receive a direct red in a traning match, however, then the sanction would take effect the next time the team plays a meaningful match (league or cup).

As in the case of Rob Friend, NFF has some leeway in applying this rule but they tend to be rather hard-assed about it.
