Thanks for that, quite boring in fact, few concrete details, tons of dumb planning process truisms. But fortunately no real hard opposition to the project, so I am optimistic. Perhaps now they need to step up the proposal a bit and be more ambitious with it, since I think they can get away with a lot more (height, capacity, structural elements) than they have shyly put into the first proposal.

Was that Bill Ault who called in?

The virtue of the design is to scrupulously NOT block too many views (though when you are in a building on Water Street you normally don't consider the front line of the docks your "view"), and not affect any residential area too much as in fact the "local" residents are quite far away mostly, and would not be affected by people flows as the people will go to where the commerce and service streets already are. That kills the two typical planning caveats.

Another thing is to talk about the real virtues of the building as a stadium but since everything is reduced to planning simplicities we have basic design and soccer design down the list and not even considered as important.

The downtown east side welfare collectors met last night on the project. They yattered on about how affordable housing should be a priority, not soccer stadiums. What a bunch of bulls**t! They don't seem to get that not only is this a 100% privately funded project, but that there's nothing else you really can build over some railway tracks. They're not going to put low income housing on the Coal Harbour waterfront.

Nope...it was me. I got the luck of the draw and mine was the only phone call.

At least we can say there was 100% support from callers on the show :-).

Cheers,

Bill Currie
