Marcel de Jong gets in 90 for Helmond Sport, who fall to Cambuur Leeuwarden in Dutch second tier 1-2 at home. They had 2500 in the stands, sure, it is cold in Europe, but that is still a USL Div. 1 type crowd.

Pesch has travelled with the team to colchester and looks likely to be involved.

PESCH IN COLCHESTER TRIP

Rams striker Paul Peschisolido has travelled with the squad to face Colchester in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow ahead of his wife's operation early next week.

Birmingham City managing director Karren Brady is to undergo surgery for an aneurysm in the brain.

Rams boss Phil Brown and director of football Murdo Mackay have sent their best wishes to Ms Brady on behalf of everyone at Derby County.

"At this moment the welfare of Karren and their family is of paramount importance," said Brown.

"I spoke to Paul about the situation earlier this week and everybody connected with Derby County sends their best wishes to Karren."

Mackay confirmed Pesch was travelling to Essex.

"Karren's health is the most important thing and this kind of situation puts everything else into perspective," said Mackay.

"But there's a terrific spirit among the squad and Paul has had superb support from the guys. It's great credit to him and a sign of his dedication to the club that he wanted to be involved this weekend."

De Guzman set to start tonight in holding mid for Deportivo, who go against At. Madrid in the Calderon. Seems his in due to injury of defender Andrade, but it is still good to see him in action lately.

Depor has to play the final minute of the first half and the whole second vs. Valencia in their second leg of the Copa del Rey quarter finals. Seems it will be played next Wednesday, behind closed doors (though Depor thinks the game should be given to them). The winner will face Espanyol in semi finals, which begin the following week.

Thought Julian did well in the centre of the holding mid in a not very attractive match, except for the goals, with At. Madrid winning 3-2. He worked well both ends of the flow, tracking back well (and maybe committing a penalty 2nd half, iffy) and always defending at the back when Depor backs went forwards for corners and free kicks. Also moved with the ball better than last time out, short passing and quick dribbling out of trouble, and following the attach in, with a shot that went wide first half. Even saw him directing traffic a bit, literallly by pointing to the free man, odd to see him assume that role. Subbed out m. 80 for an attacker as after having come back to tie twice Atletico got the winner and held on.

Jonathan de Guzman and Feyenoord stay 3 points back of PSV Eindhoven as they easily get by Heracles Almelo with a 4-0 win today. Jonathan hit the post in the 1st half but didn't get on the score sheet today.

Michael Klukowski is becoming one of our top defenders at a club level. Today he played 90 once again as Bruges could only draw vs. Roulers 1-1 in the Belgian league. A win would have taken them two points ahead of Standard Liege in the league, but as it they are tied for the lead.

Considering they were playing well without him and now that he is back he is playing, that is great news for us.

Dani Fernandes in the nets for a disappointing loss to Akromitos, an Athens side, 2-1 in the end as the locals came back to tie and then win. Seems form reports that Daniel was busier than his counterpart. The team continues to play mediocre vs. lesser rivals.

In Portugal Fernando Joao Lobo Aguiar got the first goal for Gondomar just before the half to tie the match vs. Portimonense 1-1, and then his teammates did the rest as they beat the promotion rivals 1-3 away. They are 6th, just four points off a promotion to top flight spot, quite impressive.

Rocco Placentino played 85 minutes as Gualdo defeated Benevento 3-2 in Serie C2B on Sunday. Rocco scored Gualdo's second goal in the 38th minute.

David Masciantonio played the entire match as Monterotondo were defeated 3-1 at home to Isola Liri in Serie D Girone G on Sunday. David scored Monte's only goal in the 10th minute. David received a 6.5 rating.

Julian Uccello's Sansepolcro tied Sangiustese 0-0 in Serie D Girone F on Sunday. I can't find any match info though.

I noticed on the BBC website that a Jackson was subbed in the 88th minute on Jan 28th in a R&D 3-0 win over Oxford Utd. Is this the same Simeon Jackson listed as a reserve on the Master List??

Taken from the BBC website:

Rushden & D'monds: Tynan, Gier, Gulliver, Hatswell, Bull, Berry, Savage (Nicholls 43), Stokes, Kelly, Broughton (Jackson 88), Mikolanda (Caskey 78).

Subs Not Used: Crane, Okuonghae.

I have read that Fernandes made some decent stops during the game but was at fault for the winning goal: http://news.ert.gr/en/newsDetails.asp?id=14666.

I did some reserach on Kappos. He is still with last place Akratitos, but he has yet to see a minute of action.

I heard he misjudged a high ball. Oddly enough, this is one of Dani's grey areas, where he needs some work, since he is so tall and athletic he should dominate up high.

The problem, I think, and recalling the few games he played at Celta as well, is that he may often try to do too much instead of letting the defenders handle balls out of the 6 yard box. Only that usually a coach will ask the tall keeper to come out and have the shorter more agile one stay in the goal. So he may be getting pressure to come out and is doubting. Another point to mention: he has received less than a goal a game in some 23 matches including UEFA, but four own goals, often on headers. So he may be right to doubt what his defenders are going to come up with in a critical situation.

Mais portuguesos:

Marco Bras got in 90 for Pampilhosa who fell 1-0 to Division 2 Serie C leaders Tourizanse. They are in 7th, nine back of the leaders.

Radzinski wins this round of the EPL Battle of Canada as Fulham score in injury time for a 1-0 win, taking advantage of Spurs being reduced to 10 men once again (this time it wasn't Stalteri though). Another North American, Carlos Bocanegra, scored the winner. There were a total of four North Americans in this match, two Canadians & two Americans.

Spurs are winless in three IIRC.

Other CCC action (in addition to Leicester) today:

- De Vos plays the match as a late penalty means Ipswich must settle for a 1-1 draw at home against Leeds. Ipswich are 16th.

- Jim Brennan (possibly playing defense?) is subbed out for Southampton in the 47th minute down 1-0 to Plymouth. Plymouth win 2-1. Saints are 17th.

- No Bircham for QPR nor Simpson for Millwall. Both still injured, I reckon.

Well, sort of....Fernandes came running out to the edge of his 18 yard box to catch a looping ball that was dropping in front of him. Unfortunately he spilled it, and the rebound bounced to an opponent.
