Ian Kennett
What if Canada had been heading to Germany this June for WC 2006? What if we were in Group A, instead of Costa Rica, along with Poland, Ecuador, and Germany? Would we advance through the group? Who would be on our team? If we had our very best 22 players in the WC and were actually to play in group A, how would we have done? What are your thoughts? Goal - Sutton, Hirschfeld, Stamatopoulos Defence - Devos, Stalteri, McKenna, Braz, Gervais, Jazic, Reda, Klukowski Midfield - Hutchinson, Bernier, Grande, de Guzman, de Guzman, de Rosario, Serioux, Brennan, Forward - Radzinski, Occean, Hume, Gerba Not Included? (OR perhaps swapped with somebody listed above) - Hastings, Dodds, Peters, Simpson, Fernandes, Nsaliwa, Bircham, Ademolu, Kappos, Sulentic, Imhof - Should JDG2 get included? What are your ideas? I wish we could have this discussion for a REAL reason. Cheers!
sKriSh
Looks like a pretty good squad, but I guess will just have to wait till 2010.
redhat
What if, what if, what if, what ifffffff ..... Tough question. Honestly I don't know if we're in Costa Rica's place that we would go past the next round. Based on the last game against the Ticos I have my doubts. But we'd give them a good game and may even get a point against Poland or Ecuador. Now, if we were in place of T&T, I'd think we'd have a better chance. And I know the game against England would bring out the best out of our team. As for the lineup, you pretty much got it. And yes I'd call up Jonathan. Imagine both de Guzmans in midfield, with Atiba and/or DD. And Radzinski and Hume up front. Or with DD for a 4-3-3 . Oh gosh if only things turned out better. Well 2010 is right the corner right? Guess we have to settle for some of our CONCACAF bretheren ... though it's hard to cheer for Mexico.
Guest Ed
The missed opportunity Germany 2006 squad: GK - Hirschfeld DEF - Nsaliwa, Hutchison, de Vos, Brennan MF - Stalteri, de Guzman, de Guzman, Bernier F - Radzinksi, De Rosario Subs - Fernandes, McKenna, Imhof, Ledgerwood, Hume, Occean, Friend Coach - Osieck No whiners in the lineup or on the bench. Massive edit: due to brain malfunction, missed putting Klukowsi into the left back spot. It is his. Move Brennan up, sub Bernier.
Timotas
My squad if it was the day before our first game. GK: Hirschfeld (Rosenborg) DEF: Kluwoski (Club Brugge) - Hutchinson (Helsingborg) - DeVos (Ispwich) - Stalteri (Tottenham) MID: DeRosario (SJ Earthquakes) - DeGuzman (Deportivo) - DeGuzman 2 (Feyenoord) - Bernier (Tromso) ST: Radzinski (Fulham) - McKenna (Energie Cottbus) Subs: Gerba (Sundsvall), Hume (Leicester), Grande (Viking), Brennan (Norwich), Reda (Aalborg), Sutton (Montreal Impact), Occean (Lillestrom) Rsv: Fernandes (PAOK), Simpson (Millwall), Jazic (Kuban), Peters (Ispwich), Ledgerwood (1860 Munchen) On paper, our team looks pretty amazing. So say, in all accounts our team was this, ready to play and all.. In T&T's position... Canada [0] v. Sweden [2] Canada [0] v. England [2] Canada [1] v. Paraguay [1] '75 Radzinski Or if Canada was in Costa Rica's position... Canada [1] v. Germany [3] '21 DeGuzman 2 (PK) Canada [2] v. Ecuador [1] '55 McKenna '81 McKenna Canada [0] v. Poland [2] It's fun to speculate would could happen

Jason
OK, here goes: Goal: Hirschfeld Def: Brennan, DeVos, McKenna, Stalteri Mid: DeRosario, DeGuzman, DeGuzman, Bernier Fwd: Radzinski, Occean Subs: Sutton, Stamatopolous, Jazic, Klukowski, Hutchinson, Grande, Simpson, Hume, Gerba, Reda, Nsaliwa, Imhof I think it's pretty hard to figure who would start and who would be on the bench, but I think the roster itself would be very close to this. I couldn't really see them bringing too many untested youngsters. Jason

shaku_bert
It's a fun thread you've started! But, if the truth be known, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. An opportunity missed in a big way.

Natesta
Why Lars?????? Arg, this board is so frustrating! Lars Shmars! If we were in the World Cup, the keeping duties would have to fall to Onstad, with Kenny S backing him up.

I'd definitely have him in the mix, although I'd probably still have Hirshfeld starting. Personal preference and all.
Joe Keeper
Its fun to speculate but you know, the real sad thing this thread got me thinking about is that this type of squad is very close to what we should be fielding for our up coming friendlies, not just some theoretical WC squad... My Vote: Hirschfeld Stalteri DeVos Klukouski Simpson JDG2 De Guzman Hutchinson DeRosario Radzinski Hume GK: Sutton, Stamatopolous DF: McKenna, Gervais, Jazic MF: Grande,Brennan, Bernier, Serioux F : Gerba, Occean, Friend (not to mention a whole lot of posible backups)

lefoot
I met Roger Milla in Yaounde, Cameroon in 2000!!!! I got his autograph as his was sitting at one of the nice hotels, chilling in the lobby! That guy rocks!!! He has an attitude, but does the tv commentary for cameroon national team broadcasts, and african nations cup. I will scan it and post the autograph on this site or something. He has to be the highest level soccer star I have ever met!!!
