Andrea Lombardo did not take part in Atalanta's 1-0 defeat to Brescia on Saturday in Serie B, despite travelling with the team. sstackho
Yes, it's everyone's favourite cup - the English League Cup! In today's action, Millwall hosts Birmingham. Simpson is brought on in the 98th minute in extra time with the match tied at 1-1. Heskey scores for Birmingham four minutes later to put the Brummies ahead. But Millwall score in the 116th minute to send it to penalties. Millwall miss the first penalty and never recover, going down 4-3 in the shootout. Leicester play in the Cup tomorrow, but Hume is cup-tied.

shaku_bert
re: the spurs / wigan game; did you guys think Diesel was to blame for the Wigan goal or would you pin it on King (think it was king, anyhow). It was definately Paul's man that scored but I think Paul peeled off him to cover king's (who was sleeping) man who was in a more dangerous position. A lot of Spurs fans were saying that it was Stalteri's fault, but you are right, King was sleeping and his man got behind him. Paul then had to cover two men so he went for the one that was in a better position to score. If King had stayed with his man, Paul wouldn't have had to leave his. Tromso is tied for third spot in their group with Basel, but Basel has a game in hand, meaning they need a win to ensure that at least they'll end up with the same points as the Swiss. Paok is pointless after two losses, they need to beat Rapid (with six points) in Romania, and Rennes at home on the next day, which would give them six points. But even then it could not be enough, as if Rennes does not defeat Shaktar (with 6 as well) today the latter side will be unreachable. And Stuttgart and Rapid could always play for a draw on the last day to thwart Paok's chances entirely. So it is win and pray for them.
Peschfan
Pesch scores a brace in a behind closed doors friendly against nots county in a 3-2 Derby win. Pesch was not in the squad last two games and looks to be involved this weekend. A bid was rejected from Preston made before the loan deadline day with a look to a permanent move in january. Tromso has scored m. 2 in Basel to help their chances to go into the final 3, though the UEFA site said there was 96% possession for the home team at m. 15, couldn't be right. Meanwhile Paok is still scoreless in Bucharest, in a game where it seems the Macedonians are attacking and the Romanians fouling.

Gian-Luca
At half-time it is 3-1 for Tromso over Basel in Basel, but PAOK are down 1-0 to Rapid Vienna. Apparently the latter scored on Fernandes on a free kick in the 45th minute.
Gian-Luca
Now 3-3 in Basel, as the home team hit back with two goals in 6 minutes, in spite of Hirshfeld also making a few saves in the interim.
Gian-Luca
Now 4-3 for Basel. Ademolu brought on in the 75minute for Tromso a minute after the go-ahead goal as Tromso look to get the equalizer in a match they were winning by two several minutes before! If Tromso can't tie it in the few minutes remaining they are out of the competition, as this is their last game and there will be three teams already ahead of them. Paok needs to two to stay alive. I think that Viking is out, though tied for third in their group, they have a worse goal average and are fourth already with no games left to play. Gian-Luca
They're now final. 4-3 for Basel, 1-0 for Rapid. Despite the scorelines going against them, both Canadian keepers in UEFA play today (gee, how great does that sound?) have been forced to make more saves than the keeper they faced. Quite the disparity in Basel, as they had 27 shots, 12 on target, four in. Compare that to Tromso who had 8 shots, 6 on target, and 3 of them in. Possession 70 to 30 in favour of Basel. Guest Jeffery S.
Too bad. We have no Canadians continuing in UEFA Cup, though Paok still has a meaningless home game to play vs. Rennes, Frei's team. I am not sure about Bruges state right now in Champions, will have to look to see if Klukowski's team might have a chance to continue.
