Guest Ed
quote:Originally posted by Gian-Luca He's staying where? In Canada or St. Pauli? The first article (buried in its announcement of some new sponsors) just says that the young fellow was joining the Cdn U20 camp they held outside Manchester last month. The second item is more newsworthy as it states he just signed through 2008 with the senior club. He trained with the Regional League team for 2 months. More details: Jonathan and his father have signed the contract but are waiting on the signature of his mother. FC St Pauli is now waiting on some clearances from the A-Junioren, Oberliga, and Regional Leagues. [i assume they may want him to play in any of those leagues - note that the A-Junioren team does not play in the high profile Bundesliga U19 league but a regional one. Regardless, this is a nice signing for a 17 year old] The contract will be valid once those clearances (or releases?) arrive. The contract was arranged through the young man's agent Dr. Andreas Kirsch and the FC St. Pauli Sporting Director Holger Stanislawski. Stanislawski is quoted as saying: "We're lucky to soon have such a gem in our ranks".
Gian-Luca
Thanks for the translation. I get a warm, nostalgic feeling when I see a German coach called Holger making positive comments about a Canadian soccer player.

I read in the news that Sulentic advised the management of Pauli to take at look at Jonathan. Veeery happy to have TWO Canucks in my favorite team;) Hope Jonathan is doing well. Whats his background, where is he from?
An Observer
I guess this is good news...i thought he may attract the interests of a club in a higher division...this being said, if he can get into the senior side that would be great and I believe St.Pauli has a chance to go up to the Bundesliga 2 in the next year or two...which would be great for him. Maybe its better being in the 3rd division and playing than in the Oberliga for the reserves of a Bundesliga club.

Whats his background, where is he from? Where did you read this? Sulentic did not even know Jonathan until he arrived at St Pauli. Jonathan is from Montreal, he played for the U17 team. Talking about Sulentic, he did not play well at all yesterday. I was very disappointed in his performance, I had heard so much about him.
Winnipeg Fury
He looked a bit lost, but then so did much of our team. That said, I'm glad he was given the cap. Now is the time to look at all of our potential player pool.

I read it on www.mopo.de Its the only page where you get daily news about Pauli, but its too late to find the quote. Probably the editor just thought that all Canadians have to know each other;)

CDN4EVR
Hainault actually recomended Jonathan to Dr. Kirch (agent) when he was dealing with him and on try-outs in Kaiserslautern. Jonathan and Andrew played for the same teams growing up Lakers, Quebec team and Canada (few years apart of cource) and have always supported each other in their ventures. Andrew was confident in Jonathan's capabilities on the field and happy to put in a good word for him. Wheather or not that had an impact, nobody knows but we are all glad to see them both evolve on the old continent.
