argh1
It appears that both Scotland and Wales will not allow players to join a Great Britain team for fear of losing their FIFA "Nation" status. So the Brit team for the games in London, in which they are assured a spot as hosts will be only from England and Northern Ireland FA's.
Daniel
Can't they get a guarantee from FIFA?
MFC
Scotland have been given a guarantee by Blatter that there would be no problem, however Scotland are concerned that Blatter may not be in charge then and the new gaffer won't agree. matthew
I think politically (as in the SFA avoiding a palace coup), it's good for them not to be part of a UK team and the 'we don't FIFA to get any smart ideas in the future' stance is more of an excuse than a reason. Who gets included in the side and who the manager is, etc, etc could be a big headache (if NI goes in as the only other nation, what happens if it's an all-English side?). It's easier to steer clear of the whole thing and keep the status quo. cheers, matthew
beachesl
Blatter guaranteed an automatic spot for Oceania in Decemeber 2003 (it was actually a legal decision of FIFA Executive as well), and then rescinded it six months later. Be afraid, be very afraid.
