Numerous impressive results for the Blizzard over the years, both in Canada and in Europe.

Certainly the strongest of all former Toronto clubs. It's not surprising considering the number of matches they played against top Euro squads, why they are still known today across Europe.

now did they play youth teams, reserve teams or full teams?

Ben,

I'll have to research that by looking through newspaper archives. But looking roughly at some internet sites, the match never took place:

Jarrek, I vividly remember the Metros laying a 7-0 whup job on Vera Cruz of Mexico, at Varsity, somewhere in the early 70s.

Yes?

You're right. I had forgotten this but now I remember. They played the Olympique also.

I remember the game against Ajax, since I made it happen.I went to Amsterdam with my TV crew and did an Ajax special on the Toronto Soccer Show. This became a series of 5 segments. We interviewed Van Basten,Rijkhard, Johnny Van't Schip,Koeman and Silooy all Dutch Internationals and later on the who is who in world soccer.Ajax took this game very seriously and in fact this was the first time that Ajax played in N.America.The players had a curfew and they sure kept it.10 pm.That's when Aad De Mos the Ajax coach did his bed check.Would you believe that. They were very serious about this game and foremost the Ajax tradition. The Blizzard only lost 1-0 and Bob Houghton the Blizzard coach was very happy with the result. There were around 20000 spectators and Ajax got paid 100k, I saw the contract. Aad De Mos the was very impressed with the Blizzard.Yes the Blizzard are well known in Europe but if it makes any difference we will see.

I do know that Ajax liked Toronto very much and I am sure they would want to come back.

I am sure that all the other foreign teams would feel the same way. This is a very impressive record I would say and considering it is even remarkable to say the least.

I was at the Spurs game (memorable as it was, I believe, the one and only sell out at Toronto's first SSS - Lamport). I remembered Spurs winning 1 - 0 and the web page topspurs.com agrees.

Blizzard 0 Hazard County (Jamaica)1

back in 1993.

I lost half this report off the old USENET forums.

That was an interesting "event". If any of you remember, Francois Glasman was with the Blizzard at the time and had promoted the match as having Rod Stewart there to do a ceremonial kick-off (as he was playing the CNE Grandstand that night). Of course, it never happened. At the last minute, they tried to persuade his people to come to Lamport (based on Stewart's major love of soccer) but there was no actual planning to make this happen.

The preliminary match featured Ben Johnson playing with Scarborough Magic (I seem to recall). Very fast but no real soccer skills unfortunately.

There were a couple of thousand at most in the stands. Of course, Francois kept telling me it was a sellout.

Hector Jr. got kicked out of the game early by either Molina or Evangelista (I don't remember which one refereed the match). That pretty much killed the game. Total b.s. One foul, a few words, and our brilliant and ridiculously thin-skinned referees toss out the Blizzard captain. Arrogant bastards.

Scariest moment was seeing the Hazard second keeper come into the game wearing cleats on astroturf. I thought his career was going to come to an end right in front of me.
