MLS Toronto Roster.

Hey guys,

Sharman, Budd, and James had an interesting discussion about players to fill the roster and how to go about it. They smartly said, "forget about the players in top european leagues. they make a lot of money and are playing top level soccer. they won't come." but they went on to discuss how the players in "2nd division norway" or "lower leagues in england" should very much consider coming back to play here. However, in what order does the MLS team proceed? Management, coach, players or vice versa?

I think clearly they need to go ahead and line up the best soccer knowledge possible at the top, then hire manager, then allow him to work for 18-24 months scouting whom he would like in his side - not forgetting the college draft (where a large % of MLS players do come from). That said...

i had begun preparing a list of possible names but frankly the list is too large. we could easily build two or three very competitive MLS teams made up largely of canadian players. what types of players do you guys want coming back to this side of the pond or simply moving north of the border?

what about the current Caps, Lynx, and Impact players who get regular looks in our national team. Surely if say, Greg Sutton wanted to play for MLS Toronto he'd be given a shot.

(Yallop as coach?)

Remember to keep with the MLS roster rules (SI, JI, etc.) and to include foreign players. MLS Toronto will not be a domestic all-star team.

I disagree with you. The rules willmake dor a mostly Canadian team. We use Canadians where USA uses Americans. That makes for about 15 spotsfor Canadian talent.

With any luck the bulk of our National team will play for MLS.

I belive the Caps and Impact will lose most of the quality players they have. Unless they are happy playing in the Minor Leagues of North American Soccer.

I know about the rules, but there is still a basic structure they need to observe. I suggest you look into it before commenting.

By the way, your last sentence doesn't make sense.

And every team has crucial foreigners. The 2004 USL final starting lineup for the Impact included Vincello, Ze Roberto, Bailey and a naturalized Sebrango.

So much has yet to be determined because a Canadian team could change the dynamic of the league and the rules may need modification beyond just simply a reverse quota system.

Thing such as allocations, discovery players and the Generation Addidas program will have to be re-evaluated to see how a Canadian team and Canadian players will fit into that.

Of the full roster of 28, I think you'll see 18 Canadians (or domestics), but how many will be on the senior roster remains to be seen. I believe the majority of Canucks the first couple of years will be developmental players, which seems to fit in with what MLSE is already suggesting they'll do. Based on precedent from MLS past and present, some of the foreign players will bomb and some of the young developmental players will step up and play regularly with the first team.

I've got no problem with this approach. Let's see many of these jobs go to young players that have trouble breaking in and leave many of the established players in their jobs overseas.

Hahaha. Using "Major" in MLS is as funny as using Professional in CPSL. Check out the US open cup and see how many MLS teams fall to USL teams....and with any luck the majority of national team players will be playing in Europe than in front 5600 in MLS Toronto. ANd hopefully there competition will be better than the Wizards of Kanasas and maybe they might have to face the real "REAL" and not the Real of Salt Lake.

And considering the Metrostars in a metro region of 16 millon can only get 10K to a play-off game says "BUSH LEAGUE" loud and clear.

Why do you insist on continually making negative and ignorant posts? If you have an opinion at least make reasonable arguments so people can respect your opinions. Check any open cup competition in any country including the major European soccer nations and you will find as many if not more first division teams being upset by second and even lower division teams as in the US leagues.

wow. I was just responding to someone who was calling the Impact and Whitecaps minor league cause they played in the USL instead of the much over rated MLS.

So what do you propose we do G-Man? Invite the real Real over here? Maybe they'll quit playing in La Liga and start playing in Canada.

Seriously, you're a troll of the lowest order. You've written posts against the USL, against a new CSL, and now against MLS.

Why do you even bother posting on these boards?

If you cant see USl as total minor league your blind.

Check rosters for Open cup. MLS teams put thier B squads on the field for many of those games. They dont play a Teams. DO the reasearch or are you just posting because you like reading your trash posts?
