If Toronto blows this, it may be decades before anyone trusts them to host any major international sporting event. ...

I found some world wide TV Numbers of the top ten sports events (2004) w/ other recent Fifa Events added

1. 2002 Fifa World Cup Final (Germany v Brazil) - 1.3 Billion viewers

2. 2004 Uefa Euro Final (Portugal v Greece) - 153 million

3. 2004 Olympic Games (Opening ceremony) - 127 million

4. 2004 Olympic Games (Closing Ceremony) - 96 million

5. 2004 Super Bowl - 95 million

6. 2004 Olympic Games (Men's 100m) - 87 million

7. 2004 Olympic Games (Men's 200m freestyle swimming) - 66 million

8. 2004 Formula One (Monaco Grand Prix) - 59 million

9. 2004 UEFA champions League Final (Porto v Monaco) - 56 million

10. 2004 NBA Final - 25 million

11. 2004 Wimbledon Women's Final - 21 million

11. 2004 Wimbledon Men's Final - 21 million

13. 2004 Tour de France final stage - 16 million

14. 2004 FA Cup Final (Millwall v Manchester United) - 9 million

14. 2004 Horseracing Grand National - 9 million

16. 2004 University boat Rowing race Final - 5 million

I can't find any independent stats on the WYC. All the above stats are independent, and this is why say F1 Monte Carlo only is listen at 59m and not the 400m that F1 claims. I have found cumulative numbers of around 750-800 m for the 2005 WYC. If you scale these to the cumulative numbers of the 2002 World Cup (37 billion) the final should have been watched by about 20 million. Which would make it around the 12th most watched single sports event on the planet.

All numbers on list from Media Guardian, Dec 23, 2004, titled "Euro Final Tops TV sports league"

except

*Fifa world cup rating by looking at several sources and thowing out any really high numbers quoted by fifa. Same with WYC numbers.

Quorum call, if you're here press "yes", if you're not here press "no"...

brilliant!

Now you guys see why the province wants to overhaul the whole city government structure. Its barely credible , filled with NIMBY-type characters with failed provincial Parliament ambitions.

I don't like the looks of this. Not having guarantees in writing from province and feds looks pretty unprofessional. someone dropped the ball.
