DeRo does it again

Why is McKenna the captain, anyways? Onstad I can understand, but McKenna never really stuck for me. Maybe he's good, I don't know.

And it's time Dero reproduce his club form with the Nats. He does score the odd goal with us, but we need more service from him.

The team captain should be both a proven leader, an obvious starter, a consistent strong performer, a team veteran and except in exceptional cases (i.e. a player like Kahn) not a keeper. The last captain to fit these criteria was DeVos. The only way to understand the captaincy being taken away from DeVos and given to Onstad is personal favouritism of the coach. If McKenna were played as a striker he might fit the captaincy criteria as well but he certainly does not as a defender. McKenna may be captain by default as there are few other players on our MNT who fit this description although there are a couple of potential candidates in the future with a few more years of MNT duty. DeRosario must raise his NT playing level significantly if he is to be taken into consideration. The obvious guy at the moment in my opinion would be Stalteri although maybe he is a bit too fiery and undisciplined and I am not sure how his relationship is with Yallop.

Stalteri reacted in the way that Yallop and other CSA officials should have. Maybe had Yallop threw something and got suspended it would have at least drawn enough attention to how we were getting screwed that it would have been difficult for CONCACAF refs to screw us again as subsequently happened. I for one would rather a captain who is a bit too fiery than someone who sits on his ass in such a situation. As well I would prefer someone who consistently plays great for us than the mediocre to poor performances we have had from players like Onstad, McKenna and DeRo. Sure a strong player with emotion but a bit more control like DeVos might be preferable but I don't see anyone with these qualities and the necessary experience on our roster.

Well..I'm impressed.

Damn. Where was all this last year?

Given that I haven't seen DDR play any club matchs this year the glowing reports are a bit lost on me. I wonder if a failed trip to Europe had been some sort of inspiration for Dwayne? A little challenge to get he blood hot again? Don't know.

And get off McKenna's back. I think he'll grow into a great captain. He always answers the call. ALWAYS. He's certainly vocal on the field. And he's got some real professional experience to back up his qualities. So what do you want?

That goal was rated number one on FSWC top ten goals of the week. There were several angles shown on the slowmo replay but to really appreciate the quality of the goal you have to see it from the camera angle that is low and behind the shot. You can really notice the bend. That was top quality in any competition.

Have to agree with Daniel though. DD has always been a bit of mystery to me. He doesn't score as often as you would like but when he does, its masterpiece material. Then invariably, when you are about to loose your patiece, he scores a goal. And furthermore, its at that time that you realise that no one else ( of the bigger names) has scored anything significant in a while.

Given the reason why he got suspended, I can't really blame him.

And he knew before the match that the injury he sustained would keep him out of the lineup for Costa Rica anyway. So a one-game ban would have made no difference. Of course he got three games (AIR).

cheers,

matthew
