2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup moved up to June

October 17, 2005

NEW YORK (AP) -- The CONCACAF Gold Cup will be moved up a month in 2007 and will again be played in the United States.

The 12-nation tournament will run from June 6-24, the Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Football said Monday. This year's tournament, won by the United States, was played from July 6-24.

CONCACAF expects to announce sites early next year.

So how about Gold Cup 2009 in Canada played in Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal? Some of the venues are not as big as the ones used in the States which could be a bit of a problem. However, I'd still like to see the attempt made.

I think Concacaf had to move this to June. The 2007 WYC is scheduled for July 1-22 (according to the CSA site). I think they didn't want the two events to overlap.

As for the event taking place in the U.S., I don't think anyone should be surprised. The closest Canada will ever come to hosting the Gold Cup will be possibly one group involving Canada.

Well, the stadiums used in the States are rarely full. Our parks would suit the tournament just fine in my opinion.
