Cooks
The members of the Calgary Soccer Community will try our best to give as many match reports as we can for the Challenge Cup matches. The schedule doesn't make it easy, with many matches being played at the same time across the city. Thursday is going to be tough, all of the matches are before 4:30 and spread out over 3 locations - it also doesn't help that they have changed the schedules often over the last few days (the schedule that I posted on Mustangs Alley two days ago is now completely changed). We will post match reports at the Calgary Soccer Community Forum ( http://www.freeyabb.com/phpbb/index.php?mforum=calgarysoccer ) in the "Building the Bridge" section. I will try to keep the tables up to date on Mustangs Alley ( http://members.shaw.ca/mustangs_alley/ ) I will apologize now for any gaps that occur in the early goings. I think we'll be able to get full reports for the weekend action. Hope for good weather. Cheers!

Bill Spiers
Ontario U-18 results from Sydney: Woodbridge Strikers beat Fredericton (NB) 1-0 on the boys side. The earlier boys game in Woodbridge's division was a bit of an upset - Halifax Dunbrack (NS) beat FC Select Rive-Sud (QC) by a 1-0 score - the only goal coming in the 90th. minute. Erin Mills Eagles beat Fundy United (NB) 10-0 on the girls side.
argh1
The U-14 starts to-day and the host teams named for NB aren't Moncton teams. Edmundston for the boys and FDSA for girls. Yeah 2nd place in the provincials earned the host spots. Host boys and girls host teams were added because Yukon has sent teams to make an even number of twelve teams. Is it unusual for territories to send teams? The official word from the city is that all ten kentucky bluegrass fields at the CN Sportplex are in exceptional shape and that 2,000 visitors are in town with an extra 750 hotel rooms booked just for the tourney. Good somebody show that some-one can make $ on soccer. The U-14 Cup is called the Tide Cup .......hmmmmm would that be the soap company?

Cooks
Some Frankenstein Match reports (pieced together from various posts). The Calgary Dinos quite looked good in a 5-2 thumping of Saskatoon Arsenal. "Dinos defense looked a little shaky in the first half, but they seemed to dominate more and more as time went on, with the exception of the own goal in the second half." Goals came from Brian Newmarch (3), Fred Decaigny, and John Remmer ("a world class effort as well, took it on his chest, over the defender and then volleyed it to the goalie's left into the corner"). The "Dinos goalie made a game saving save when it was 2-1; a defender giveaway sent a guy through and Rick bailed him out." Apparently, the BC squad looked quite poor in their match versus Green & Gold. Many thanks to Soccer Hack, Mike Howlett and JamieH for their contributions on the CSC forum. Check the Mustangs Alley site for the latest table (and tell me if you want an expanded version) Cheers.

Richard
Why is the Calgary Centennial Soccer Association 2005 Senior Soccer Nationals website not being updated with match results when we're already two days into a five day tournament? All very well having a flashy website but if its not being kept current it is pretty useless. http://www.calgarycentennialsoccer.com/schedule.php

Bill Spiers
Ontario-18 results from Sydney: The girls had an early game today (Friday) - the boys don't play until this afternoon. Erin Mills Eagles faced their toughest challenge to date against South End United from Manitoba but came through with a 4-1 win. Forecast for Saturday is for heavy rain! Luckily, both boys and girls teams play at the New Waterford Turf Field tomorrow.

Cooks
From the Calgary Soccer Community forum: Nova Scotia vs. Yukon Match Report I apologize for spelling errors of player’s names, I had to get them by word of mouth. In a game of two halves, the Yukon Selects stayed alive, mathematically, as they fought to a 1-1 draw with Nova Scotia's Halifax Celtic. Celtic dominated much of the opening 45 minutes and their constant pressure was rewarded in the 21st minute when Matt Budreski finished a nice passing play with Colin Chisholm and slid a shot past the Yukon keeper on the left side. Yukon only had a pair of chances in the first half, the first of which came in the 27th minute. An inswinging free kick from the left of the 18-yard box was spilled by the Celtic keeper and a goal-mouth scramble was finally cleared by the Celtic defence. Celtic controlled again three minutes later and nearly added a second goal as Mark Sweetapple met a fine cross from the right touchline, but his glancing header slid just wide of the left post. Five more minutes of intense Celtic pressure would see three more decent scoring chances go wanting. Yukon saw their only other chance of the half come in the 42nd minute, as Victor Lavenderous latched onto a telling cross from the left side, but he could only manage to touch the ball past the right post while at full stretch. Celtic had the last good chance of the half when Budreski fired a blast over the bar from 8 yards, after a failed clearing attempt by Yukon. Celtic began the second half right where they left off and nearly profited immediately after the restart as Simon Richadson was sent through, but his attempt was aimed straight at the keeper and was easily saved. The Yukon’s Calef Staples was carded in the 49th minute after a clumsy late challenge. This seemed to wake up the Northern squad a little and they began to see more of the play. Yukon had a quality chance in the 54th minute as Amon Hoefs made some good moves, but his shot was directly at the Celtic keeper. Yukon scored the equalizer, still a little against the run of play, two minutes later. They had been awarded a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the Celtic box and Paul Fraughton blasted a low drive that skirted the wall and slid right through Celtic keeper, who really should have done better. With this goal, Yukon came alive and controlled much of the remainder of the match. Hoefs was proving to be a real thorn in the side of the Celtic defence. Celtic countered in the 67th minute, as Richardson was sent a long ball down the left touchline and cut towards the Yukon goal. His attempt with the outside of his foot was parried by the knees of the Yukon keeper. The final minutes of the match saw some intense back-and-forth action. Celtic Christophe Barrow was shown the Yellow for catching a Yukon player with his studs, and while Yukon was temporarily down to ten men, Celtic poured on the pressure. The best chance came in the 90th minute as a Chisholm header was cleared off the line. A staggering 6 minutes of stoppage time saw no resolution and the match ended in a deserved stalemate. Bill Spiers
Ontario U-18 results from Sydney: Woodbridge Strikers beat Halifax Dunbrack by a 3-1 score. This was a key game for both teams as Dunbrack had beaten the Quebec team earlier. Both teams were 2-0 going into this game. Another key game on Saturday sees Woodbridge play Select Rive-Sud from Quebec as they battle for a place in Monday's Gold Medal game.
