Daniel
This is the seeding thing Khead was complaining about. Montreal gets the 4th while Rochester gets the 6th.

Johnnie Monster
Truth be told, Vancouver probably couldn't have knocked off the Impact but Seattle could. Their style of play is far more conducive to a victory over Montreal than ours is. I'm guessing Seattle - Rochester in the final, with a Rochester win. Guest Jeffery S.
I don't understand why everyone is complaining about seeding. Absolutely every tennis tournament works that way, and most playoff structures in pro sports. If the playoff or tournament favourite is knocked out in the first round, that whole side of the draw is weakened (or opened up, or however you may call it), while if in other match-ups the favourites win, that side of the draw stays strong. For me it is perfectly fair, within of course the lack of sense of playoffs to decide champions in this particular sport.

Having watched the second leg of the Sea-Por game on Sunday, I would have to agree that a win over Montreal would not surprised me. The Sounders looked pretty much in controll of the situation and forced Portland to accumulate a ton well deserved cards early on. They also looked dangerous on the offensive side with Roger Levesques and while his first goal was bruttal and would never have been conceded at a higher level, he did look dangerous on many other occasions. They have also been bolstered by the addition of that Cuban defector whose name escapes me at the moment. Meanwhile, looking at the scorlines and summaries, Montreal has not really looked the same since the departurers of the two G's ( Grande and Gerba). They would appear to have been "eaking' out wins with lates goals. They may be still air-tight defensively but watch out should they ever fall behind early and need to score. beachesl
quote:Originally posted by Bxl Boy No ! Last year, eastern conference semi-finals were : Miami (1) - Washington (5) Detroit (2) - Indiana (6) You are right, my friend, I am wrong: "The playoffs follow a tournament format. Each team plays a rival in a best-of-seven series, with the first team to win four games advancing into the second round, while the other team is eliminated from the playoffs. In the next round, the successful team plays against another advancing team of the same conference. Thus, all but one team in each conference are eliminated from the playoffs. Since the NBA does not re-seed teams, the playoff bracket in each conference uses a traditional design, with the winner of the series matching the 1st and 8th seeded teams playing the winner of the series matching the 4th and 5th seeded teams, and the winner of the series matching the 2nd and 7th seeded teams playing the winner of the series matching the 3rd and 6th seeded teams. In every round except the NBA Finals, the best of seven series follows a 2-2-1-1-1 pattern, meaning that one team will have home court in games 1, 2, 5, and 7, while the other plays at home in games 3, 4, and 6. For the final round (NBA Finals), the series follows a 2-3-2 pattern" from wik,nba

With only 15 goals against in 28 games played the Impact, statistically, had the best defense in the USL First Division. Seattle finished the 2005 season in fourth place with an 11-6-11 record. The Sounders were paired up against the fifth place Portland Timbers in the first round of playoffs last weekend and defeated them 3-0 aggregately to advance to the semi-finals. (Vancouver was in second with 21) On A Roll: The Sounders head into this weekend’s match on a three game winning streak. All three goals in the first round of playoffs were scored by forward Roger Levesque who was the Sounders 2005 regular season scoring leader with six goals. Levesque has scored three goals in post-season play for an overall goal total of nine. The Sounders are also on a three game, 270 minute shutout streak. We want to make sure we're sharp in every part of our game," Impact captain Mauro Biello said yesterday after the team wrapped up an intense practice at the Catalogna Soccerplexe in Lachine. The Sounders soundly trounced their greatest rival, the Portland Timbers, on Sunday, beating them 2-0, winning the two-game series 3-0 overall. "You could tell they were the much better team. They moved the ball, they possessed. They controlled the game, and played a smart game," Biello said of the Sounders.
