jordan
from www.goal.com In an effort to boost its club for the MLS playoff stretch, FC Dallas released two players and announced two new signings. Reserves Ty Maurin and Alex Woods have been shown the door by FCD manager Colin Clarke in order to make room for two internationals. Thirty-year old Argentine goalkeeper Dario Sala joins after a career in South America that saw him suit up for clubs like River Plate, Independiente and Newell's Old Boys from his native country as well as Jaguares de Chiapas in the Mexican league. The second signing comes from the north. Canadian U-23 defender Winston Marshall has joined the FC Dallas developmental roster. Marshall was selected by the Hoops in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. The Beaver
Wow, that is a nice piece of news. Man, do we need some guys who can play at back. Maybe Winston will rise to the challenge over the next few years.
RS
I had wondered what happened to Marshall after he was drafted in February and then proceeded to fall off the face of the earth. Hopefully he can impress enough this time around to land at least a permanent reserve spot.
Gian-Luca
Hopefully in the near future we will have a Canadian MLS team or two so that players in Winston's situation, coming out of the NCAA will be able to develop in a Canadian first-team roster, rather than the reserves of a US-based one. But this is good news in the meantime for Winston, let's hope he makes the best of it.
Guest Jeffery S.
I think this is another of our strong young players. Now all I hope is that they go on a European tour next preseason, some Norway Eliteserien team sees him, and they offer four times more than him more than the 19,575 US dollars a season he'll get in Dallas. Richard
Winston Marshall was drafted by the Whitecaps in January 2005 but evidently did not stick.
matthew
It was reported somewhere by Dallas fans that Marshall actually intended to stay in school and finish his degree and I don't believe he even went to camp. I assume he also didn't go to camp with the Caps either, but someone in Vancouver would certainly know that better than I. Nice to see he's getting a shot and hopefully he develops into the national team pool. cheers, matthew
