zacRWE
Hey all, just wondering what you think about Robin van Persie's red card against FC Thun in the Champions League? Was it malitious or accediantal? Well, no matter what he will miss the next game.. suspended for the high boot which caught the Thun player. ------------------------------------------------------------- Van Persie handed ban Friday, 16 September 2005 Arsenal FC forward Robin van Persie has been banned for one match by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Committee after his dismissal for serious foul play in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League game against Swiss side FC Thun at Highbury. Red card Van Persie was shown a red card by Polish referee Grzegorz Gilewski shortly before half-time of the Group B fixture, which Arsenal won 2-1, after catching Thun's Alen Orman in the face with his raised foot. The decision is not subject to appeal, in accordance with UEFA's disciplinary provisions. Ajax absense The ruling means the 22-year-old Dutch international will miss Arsenal's next Champions League match, away to AFC Ajax on 27 September. In reaching its judgment, UEFA said that while Van Persie could reasonably be presumed to have had no intent to bodily harm his opponent, the reckless element involved in the challenge was punishable under UEFA disciplinary law. ©uefa.com 1998-2005. Loud Mouth Soup
Joke. Should have been a yellow. There was absolutely no intent to injure or go after the player. Just reckless play. And when Gilberto takes an elbow to the face with 5 minutes to go...nothing. A new UEFA ref looking to make a name for himself.
SeanKeay
Definatly a Arsenal fan, it doesnt matter if there was no intent to injure, the boot went straight into his face. Plain and simple he is sent off, BOOT TO FACE = Red card, no questions asked

I don't think there was any intent at all, but if you put your studs up that high...well, just don't put your studs up that high. C'mon, the guy needed 7 stitches in his face. If that had been me I would have kicked RvP straight in the nards and been sent off as well.
