Daniel
Ok with that. In the bar or, failing that, in the main entrance.
Canuck in Boston
I still plan on attending, although I probably won't get there until just before the match starts. I am driving, so I figure 3.5 hours to Brussels then another 2.5 or so from there. I will joined by a colleague that grew up in Arlon and claims to know the area well. Here's to hoping I won't get lost!
Saviola7
I still can't get a straight answer from my teammates. If they come, we will most likely be taking the train or car, in which case we will be there around 2ish and staying in the hostel. If I'm alone, I'll be taking the eurolines from amsterdam and sleeping in a tent (should be fun) to pinch my pennies. Unfortunately, that puts me in Luxembourg just an hour from the match. Regardless, somehow my Canada jersey got lost in the move here, but I will be wearing red and white. I'm considering bringing my Ajax scarf as it's red and white and almost looks like a canada one . I'll have a digital camera as well.
Saviola7
wow. Maybe all of the press covering the match are staying there ok, well then I'll probably be coming alone as I doubt the fortitude of my dutch counterparts as far as tenting in 1 degree weather is concerned. The good news is that there is a campground right in Hesperange
Saviola7
It turns out that my teammate is not going to let me down. I will be arriving by train just after noon. See you at the hostel at 4.
Daniel
Sh*t, going to verify if my reservation is all good and well. I'm hoping I didn't get screwed because I received a booking number but couldn't pay online. Cool about the campground, is there a website? But if all the rooms *are* booked, it could make for a very interesting Wednesday night.
Daniel
Camping closed on the 30th of September. Any alternatives? Also, for the last time, will anyone have a digital picture camera at the game?
Saviola7
Yeah, the website claims that the one in Hesperange is closed for the season. But I'll do some calling and see if they'll let me pitch a tent there anyway (it's not like I'm going to have a campfire or anything). Failing that, there are two options: There is another campground in the next suburb over (doesn't look too far): http://www.camp-kockelscheuer.lu/ Or, I can find a farmer, and ask if I can sleep on their front lawn (better brush up on my french). I will be keeping my eye on the hostel as well though.
Saviola7
Update: I was wrong the other campground is closed as well. I called Hesperange and asked them if they could let us into the campground and they were entirely unhelpful (except that they were able to speak english since my french has degraded to inadequate). So I guess I will go door to door, looking for a place to put down my tent, unless a spot opens up in the hostel. In any event, it will be an adventure! Daniel
My reservation is ok. Saviola, you can crash under my bed . How old is everyone? I'm 22.
Breakwood
hey Saviola, maybe you can go on to the Luxembourg supporters site, and see if any of them will allow you to pitch a tent on their lawn or somthing, just an idea if the hostel falls through. juaninho
I find myself in a similar SOL situation as Saviola. I tried booking mid last week, but alas, the hostel was booked. I think I'll try and camp out in the train station hobo style, just have to bring some 2 month unwashed clothes to sell the image. Will most likely make it though, but I worry about the cold and being out all night. Will probably bring some whiskey and learn some sea chanties to pass the night away. Calgary Boomer
quote:Originally posted by Sigma The game will be played in Esch. It will also be a charity match to support children not to do drugs or something like that. Apparently the chances are really slim the game will sell out. http://ultras95.newstylenetworks.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=209 This is the stadium in Esch s. Alzette (home of Jeunesse Esch)... capacity 5,550 (4,000 seats - 1,500 standing). Many pictures of the stadium can be found here... http://www.stadionwelt.de/stadionwelt_stadien/index.php?template=stadionlisten&stadion=Stade%20de%20la%20Fronti%E8re&foto_ordner=Luxemburg/stade_de_la_frontiere&id=1784 Christ, that Toronto Stadium looks pretty good compared to this. Saviola7
first off, the match was moved to a different staduim that that. second, I ended up booking a hotel room to split with my friend for 45 euro. If you don't have a HI card, it works out to almost a similar price as the hostel. juaninho, there are still spots available at some of the hotels in town, so I recommend either calling them now, or having a list handy and going to each one before you give up. They aren't too expensive either ... check out www.ont.lu (make sure they're in Luxembourg city!) I was hoping to impress everyone by camping, but lows of zeros and rain/snow has convinced me otherwise

The best I've found so far is IBIS Lux. sud, 10k south of Lux city.

juaninho
I don't if anyone going to the match will read this, but I'm sorry to say that I can't make it. It's just the uncertainty of accomodation and the fact that I'll be on a really tight schedule makes it really difficulut for me to go. Enjoy the match! Guest Jeffery S.
Where were you guys on the 18th! I was sure I was going to meet some of you yesterday for the Luxembourg match, flew all the way in from Barcelona direct on Saturday, stayed at the Ibis as you recommended, took a cab out to Esch, and found it quite quiet around the stadium. The security guy would not let me in, boy am I pissed! Was it closed doors or what, I know only a few of you were going, that it was not going to draw that many fans, but I don't get it. I ended up watching Belgium league in a bar near the stadium, but that does not make up for this lack of seriousness amongst the Voyageurs. Posers! Next time you arrange to meet for a game like this have the decency to show up, jerks!
