Ali Gerba transfer rumours

Ali Gerba is under contract with swedish Sundsvall until the end of 2007, but might move before that. His recent performance against Spain and some good-looking goals in the swedish premier has stirred the interest of "several swedish and foreign clubs", according to GIF Sundsvall's manager Urban Hagblom. At least norwegian Rosenborg has had scouts watching Gerba. Hagblom adds that the club has no intention to sell, but personally I would think they will have problems holding on to Gerba if they get relegated. Gerba himself says that the best thing for himself right now is to focus on the remaining matches of the season.

But they are rumours. How often have we seen these kind of stories? what ever happened to the Bernier to Betsikas one? None the less I am very surprised by the quote stating that his play versus Spain caught the attention of other clubs. there were many who did much better. I have a feeling that Yallop felt the same way since Gerba was the first to be subbed out...:D

Define "rumour".

Besiktas offered 10 million NOK (=1.86 million CAD) for him and Tromsö turned them down.

His play versus Spain may have been poor, but his bicycle kick goal will probably ensure that he'll at least stay in Allsvenskan.

I think that the main difference here is that Sundsvall is about to get relegated. The chances of a few top players moving increases, with that in mind.

But yes, right now it is just rumours.

The "rumours" in this case are coming from his coach, rather than the News of the World or the National Enquirer. They sound a bit more credible, whether anything comes of this or not.

There were indeed other players who impressed more than Ali did against Spain that might be relegated as well (Serioux comes to mind) but the bigger Scandinavian clubs often look to players in their own leagues to acquire first before trying to nab players probably making more cash in the English Championship, I suspect, who will be more difficult to entice to come to Scandinavia. However it doesn't surprise me that his play against Spain hasn't scared anyone off him - he may not have done anything spectacular but neither did he look like he didn't belong there, IMO. Also they've seen what he can do at the club level every week in Sweden.
