beachesl
Wow, why do I always choose against Lyon? As usual, I will get the ball rolling for the quarterfinal predictions. I am perhaps foolishly (as I did last year) predicting an Italian redux: --------------------------------------------- Arsenal v Juventus Draw-Juventus victory Benfica v Barcelona, Two Barcelona victories Inter-Milan v Villareal, Inter victory followed by a draw Lyon v AC Milan, Draw followed by a Milan victory --------------------------------------------------------- I still feel Barca will emerge with the Cup, against an Italian club. Thank you beachesl, thank you thanks thanks thank-you. Really. The important thing is to concentrate. If you are concentrated and focussed it will happen. If you are not you may be responsible for it not happening. I asked my 7 year old three days before each Chelsea match, "So, are you concentrated this week?" "About what?" "You know..." "Oh, Chelsea, oi?" He understood. This is basically why I have not participated in this pool, it is distracting to the cause.

As do Villareal for beating their rival, they totally dominated and played a great match tonight.
River City
Thanks Jeffrey I'm not sure what canadiankick97's reasoning was, but I figured that; 1) Inter lost a lot of confidence in not being able to catch up to Juve and subsequently falling behind the other Milan team 2) Inter is an old team 3) Villareal has some key players that can turn it up and make a difference 4) Although Forlan hasn't been burning it up, he can still play in front of goal in terms of positioning and drawing defenders 5) I didn't think Inter looked convincing enough to be hailed as the favourites Having said that, it is all guesswork. One lucky bounce and I would be just another guy who didn't pick smartly.

Seriously, the guy played an absolutely amazing game, not only the dribbling and passing, but an incredible, unexpected shot late 2nd half from deep down the right side, almost beside the linesman, from an impossible angle, that Toldo pushed out as it found the goal line. Definitely worried about tonight's match-up, don't think this is going to be easy and have those terrible butterflies in the stomach I usually only get before playing Madrid. River City
quote: You picked Villareal without even considering Riquelme? Of course I did. He falls under #3. Although I expected Inter would have done a better job of marking him which would have allowed Sorin, Forlan, etc to rise to the occasion. I saw the game up until the goal and Riquelme was kicking ass! As for Benfica - Barça....I want Barcelona to win. I picked Barcelona to win. The only thing that could ghange that is confidence levels. Benfica is feeling pretty confident they will advance since Rocha marked Ronaldinho out of the game last time. I'm not sure what the mood is in the Camp Nou, but that is where I feel the difference will come.
