DJT
Final: Vancouver 2Puerto Rico 0 55' VAN Jason Jordan (Steve Klein) 71' VAN Jason Jordan (Steve Kindel) Whitecaps report (For those who are interested, I completely forgot about this match and so didn't record it. B&WA probably did, but I don't know if he'll release it.)
Alberto7
Wow...Jordan now has 17 goals on the season. I don't understand all those of you that have been bashing Bob Lilley's coaching. The team is doing very well and Jordan is leading the league in scoring. What is it exactly that you guys want? I remember when Lilley coached the Impact, people complained about his tactics but the Impact always did well and strikers like Sebrango scored by the bucketfull(remember 2002 when he scored 18?). Lilley's style gets results but its not pretty. Jordan got two very easy goals, the hard work was done by Steve Kindel and others. Nobody would have missed those chances except for Valente who missed two easy chances in the first 5 minutes of the game. Sometimes Jordan has to work for his goals but not last night. PR played the night before in Seattle and should have been tired, but with its style of play, PR had no real excuse. PR is a slow build-up team, which allowed Vancouver's entire team to defend. There were many times that Vancouver had all 11 players inside its last 1/3 of the field, and those occasions were not limited to corners and other set pieces. Thats great team defensive soccer which means the Caps have a good chance to win the playoff championship. In contrast, when Vancouver was attacking, PR usually had 2 or 3 players remaining at centre.

Who couldn't score goals back in 2002 with opposition like Hampton Roads (57 goals against), Charlotte Eagles (46 goals against), Indiana Blast (67 goals against), Cincy Riverhawks (68 goals against) and Calgary Storm (66 goals against). I don;t think tha twas Lilleys coaching style that created Sebrango's goals it was the poor opposition. From those of us out here watching, the goals/wins are despite the coaching, not because of it. A lot of goals are because we are getting tired opposition who have played the night before in Seattle. Last night I'd guess that Puerto Rico had plenty of possesion in the Vancouver end during the first half (noticeable because I was at the other end of the pitch) but as the game went on possestion switched sides as PR (corrected) got tired. I wouldn't be expecting any championship this season unless Josh Wicks learns how to catch the ball. Many shots that should have been easily caught were bobbled, fumbled or dropped. I overheard a couple of guys to my left at one point in the game remarked on how awful he was, and a hispanic guy (there for fiesta latino night) came over and asked "where's the number one keeper?" When I explained that he was out for the season he pointed to Wicks and responded "because this guy...." his comment trailed off and he just shook his head. When Vancouver starts facing some tougher teams in the playoffs all of those bobbled and dropped balls are going to end up in the goal.
Vancity Tim
Have to agree about the Wicks fears. Last night there were far too many 'adventures' with balls that should have been easily handled. Too bad, because the rest of the team is cruising along nicely.

Freudian slip! Wicks might need to coat his gloves in pancake syrup to make the ball stick. Mike Franks was on the radio and said he'll likely be back for the playoffs, although a first-round bye would give him sime more healing time. Guest Jeffery S.
Too bad about Wicks, but I did hear some fellow players say that he was prone to giving up easy goals. So are soft hands a reason? I wonder if Lilly would put Srdjan in, knowing that his plan is to go back to UBC. I will ask about this.

Yah, I've found myself referring to them as El Paso quite a lot, although judging from their play last night they are not as bad as others in this league have made them out to be. Franks may say he's going to be ready for the playoffs but the report in todays Province indicated that his injury isn't coming along as well as they would like. Footy
On the topic of Josh Wicks whats with Alan Eringtonss post game comments on the Team1040's broadcast made no real effort to identify the fact that there where about 2-3 bobbles by him. I get the impression that Erington would rather have a rookie between the pipes in the playoffs.

Since they've beem building Josh Wicks up as a fine keeper (and he was looking okay before the last game) I guess they just decided to overlook his errors. My guess is the Caps will have Wicks in net for the playoffs, I don't think Franks will be ready.
