George
I am pretty sure that Kappos has left Aris. I am assuming that the club let him go. I am sure that funds must be tight at Aris after relegation. I’ve been unsuccessful so far finding out where he went. But I'll keep on trying. beachesl
George, although we are all eager to hear about Kappos progress, this is the dozenth thread you have opened on him, which along with creating too many threads, confuses those of us who either don't know about him or don't remember what happened to him the last time we talked about him. Apart from news items and discussion, this site also serves as an important archive for Canadian soccer, a resource that really does not exist elsewhere. When you post any other news about him, please search for the last thread, and then add the item to the last thread (now this thread) so there is some continuity. Use the search button on the upper right, and then just type in "Kappos" and hit the "subject only" option. Since I, for one, have lost track of his age, his first name, and what position he plays (he isn't even listed anywhere on the broad CSA depth charts), I, for one, would appreciate it, George, if you could now post some basic info on him, such as his age, his position, and a brief chronology about his playing career. This will allow someone who wants to actually know something about this guy other than his last name to do so without spending hours trying to do a frustrating web search. Cheers. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Last Thread -------------------------------------------------------------------- Topic George 189 Posts Posted - 01/13/2005 : 13:58:20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a short blurb about it on the AEK website. Here is the link: http://www.aekfc.gr/index.cfm?ContentPageID=55&NewsID=1393 (Its in Greek...) For the non-Greeks--my Greek is not the best--but I'm pretty sure that its says that they have let him go and wish the best with his soccer career. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by - George on 01/13/2005 14:04:33 G-Man east side Canada 521 Posts Posted - 01/13/2005 : 14:04:49 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think he's been 945'd Sigma Perth Canada 1590 Posts Posted - 01/13/2005 : 15:23:23 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any word on what happened to Marcina? Metro Toronto Canada 224 Posts Posted - 01/14/2005 : 18:17:14 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reports from a Greek soccer message board at phantis.com state that Kappos has signed a 3 1/2 year contract with Aris. Aris currently sit in 14th place in the Greek first division. Aris is a team based out of Thessaloniki that are generally a mid-table team, but due to financial difficulties have struggled in recent years to avoid relegation. Their main rival is Fernandes' PAOK, who are also based in Thessaloniki. Hopefully he can establish himself as a starter at Aris and then move to a larger team later. George 189 Posts Posted - 01/15/2005 : 17:50:32 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aris has definitely picked up Stathis. They have a blurb about the deal on their website: http://www2.arisfc.gr/page.aspx?item=28&id_article=60&from_home=1 Winnipeg Fury Winnipeg Canada 1123 Posts Posted - 01/15/2005 : 22:29:54 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On behalf of the Voyageurs, I would like to thank-you for your long running (how many years now ?) Greek updates. Always informative and accurate. Aris are really struggling at the moment and in danger of dropping to the Second Division, but I think this is a good move as he will no doubt get regular playing time with the first team. Will regular playing time get him out of Frank's doghouse ? beachesl
For those of you suffering from dementia like me, here is some data on him from transfermarkt.de: -------------------------------- Stathis Kappos Geburtsdatum: 31.07.1979 Alter: 26 Grösse: 1,77 Nationalität: Griechenland Fuss: rechts Status: Akt. Nationalspieler: ? Spiele -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Verein: Akratitos Ano Liosiou / A Ethiniki () Position: Abwehr Positionsdetails: rechter Verteidiger Im Team seit: 2005 Vertrag bis: ? Marktwert: 150.000 Spielerberater: ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Weitere Angaben: Kappos, in Toronto geboren, ist kanadischer Nationalspieler; besitzt aber auch die griechische Staatsbürgerschaft. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Transferhistorie (* während der Saison) Saison: von: zu: ausgel.: Ablöse: 05 / 06 Aris Saloniki Akratitos Ano Liosiou ablösefrei 04 / 05* AEK Athen Aris Saloniki ablösefrei 01 / 02 AO Kalamata AEK Athen ablösefrei -------------------------------------------------------------- It lists him with Aris now, so it is not updated. His position is listed as defence. It lists his nationality as Greek, with Canadian as an alternative nationality. His first name is Stathis, though he is sometimes referred to as Stathi for short. His last name is sometimes spelled Kapos or Kappo or Kapo on various CSA news releases. Birthdate: July 31, 1979. In terms of citizenship, he was apparently born in Canada, but at 16 took up Greek residency when his parents moved back. In terms of his playing for Canada, he was on the preliminary roster of the 2002 Gold Cup, but did not make the final roster. He was on the roster for Yallop's "North American training camp" friendly against and in Barbados on January 18, 2004, and came on in the 75' minute so he is in fact cap-tied with Canada (the match is listed on the FIFA site as an official senior A friendly, so he is in fact cap-tied). He apparently was previously on the roster for an official Greece Under-21 match, but was not on the field so his status was not then affected. Daniel
You can't get cap-tied from a friendly. You have to step on the field in an official game.
youllneverwalkalone
Beachesl has looked this one up and provided links to the FIFA documentation -more than once I believe.
George
According to Contra.Gr (http://www.contra.gr/storydetail.aspx?ArticleID=63134) Kappos has joined newly promoted Akratitos. They were in the Greek A division the year before but were relegated. They aren’t expected to do much this season. The team’s website is not running. All I can say is that if he isn't a starter here...he never will be!! This is his new home field: http://www.stadia.gr/akratitos/akratitos.html.
