Final Score:............Toronto Lady Lynx...........6................Vermont Lady Voltage...............0..............

Attendance was announced in the press box as 1515. (I'd say with the stands not quite half full, about 900 people) on this warm evening. The Lady Lynx didn't have a lot of time to publicize this game. They had to request that the OSL White Eagles vs Woodbridge men's game be played after their game. There were a lot less youth teams for this mid-week game that I first heard about only three weeks ago.

I could see the result of this game was predictable as soon as I saw the Lady Voltage had only brought 12 players. Expecting they'd get tired in the second half and that's just what happened when the Lady Lynx second stringers increased the lead from 2-0 to 6-0. This is the fourth time in four games that the Lady Lynx has beaten Vermont. Three of those victories have happened right here at Centennial Stadium.

Stacey VanBoxmeer earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx and didn't have a lot to do except for catching some crosses, corners and off target shots from Karen Burke. Hannah Neagle was just two steps behind a tap-in when VanBoxmeer backed off a cross and the ball flew right through the box at the 5 minute mark. Lady Lynx defenders Joanna Alexopolus, Holly Lincoln, captain Catharine Marossazeky and Robin Rushton made things easier for their goalie by preventing a lot of shots.

The Lady Lynx now head for Ottawa on the weekend to play the division champion Fury. Let's hope the Lady Lynx can bring enough players to the game to be a challenge to Ottawa who beat them in their two meetings in the regular season.

Congratulations to the Lady Lynx.

But they will not play Ottawa just yet. Toronto will play Boston in one semifinal while Ottawa will play Long Island in the other on Saturday. The two winners will meet in the conference final on Sunday. All those matches will be played in Ottawa. The conference winner will advance to the league championship tournament in New Jersey on the following weekend.
