Victoria, BC will once again play host to a match in the International Pacific Soccer Series organised by the British Columbia Soccer Association. The match will see newly promoted Sunderland AFC of the English Premiership play a British Columbia All Stars team at Royal Athletic Park on Thursday 14th, July. The All Stars will comprise select players from the PCSL (summer), the VMSL (Vancouver Metro Soccer League - winter) and the VISL (Vancouver Island Soccer League - winter) although most of the players selected play in the PCSL as well as one of the two winter leagues. This represents the first time in several decades that a team from the top division in England has played a match in Victoria. The last such match in Victoria was between the English club Newcastle United and the Victoria Royals on May 16, 1970 at RAP. Check the PCSL website at www.pcsl.org for further details and the All Star roster which will be published after release at a BCSA press conference early in the coming week.

Sunderland AFC will continue their IPSS tour with games against the Vancouver Whitecaps (July 16), Seattle Sounders (July 20) and Portland Timbers (July 23).

Nice going VMSL, PCSL and the local amateurs.

To play in a match against such fine competition should be memorable.

Kudos to BCSA for arranging the game.

Yeah I agree, kudos to the BCSA although the PCSL has been very much involved in this whole thing, especially the All Star game. Last year it was Heart of Midlothian and Millwall, wonder who it will be next year ;).

Of course this was set up well before Sunderland earned promotion to the premiership which has been a nice bonus.
