Your guide to TNS

By Bruce Pope

It is not clear how much the multi-millionaires from Anfield will know about TNS, but here BBC Sport ensures that you have everything you need to know about them.

THE PLAYERS

* New TNS recruit Thomas Rooney is the cousin of England and Manchester United star Wayne, and the striker goes straight into the TNS squad for Wednesday.

Will the name Rooney continue to haunt Liverpool?

Tom is a product of the Tranmere youth set-up, just one part of a strong connection with Prenton Park.

* Manager Ken McKenna is a former Tranmere striker - and a devout Everton supporter - while left midfielder Chris King is the son of former Tranmere player Alan.

* The Blue side of the Mersey is well represented, with Tom Field and Steven Beck both former members of the Everton youth academy.

Midfielder Beck made one appearance for the Everton first team in a friendly against Chester City in July 2002.

* Then there's the Liverpool fans - forward John Toner was a trainee at Anfield, top scorer Marc Lloyd Williams and skipper John Leah are Liverpool fans, while winger John Lawless is an out-and-out Scouser with a Liverpool FC tattoo.

Lloyd Williams broke the Welsh Premier goal-scoring record with 47 goals in 2001/2 for Bangor City, and would have won the European Golden Boot award had Wales enjoyed a higher Uefa coefficient.

* Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse's new wife, Jude, is Welsh and comes from the same town, Bangor, as Lloyd Williams' wife.

* TNS even have their very own international - with striker-cum-midfielder Jamie Wood being capped by the Cayman Islands.

Wood spent four years on the books at his beloved Manchester United.

He then plyed his trade with Royal Antwerp in Belgium as well as Hull City, Halifax and Swansea before injury marred his progress.

Wood has played at Anfield before, losing 4-2 with Hull in the 1998/99 Coca Cola Cup.

* There might even be some Midlands support for TNS, as wing-back Martyn Naylor's brother, Lee, plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

THE CLUB

* TNS are based in the mid-Wales Town of Llansantffraid (Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain is its full Welsh name), near Oswestry, with a population of just over 1000.

Liverpool's (that's Lerpwl in Welsh) population is close to 450,000.

* Former Liverpool and Wales striker Ian Rush is a non-executive director of TNS.

Will Liverpool great Ian Rush have split loyalties?

* In 1997 Llansantffraid FC became Total Net Solutions FC after a major sponsorship deal.

The club has merged with Oswestry Town and may move to a ground there in the future.

* The club's current home is The Recreation Ground, but is usually referred to as Treflan - capacity is 2,000 and average attendance is 333.

Anfield holds 45,362, with an average gate of 42,587.

The first leg at Anfield is sold out, with TNS having a 3,000-ticket allocation.

* Tickets at Anfield usually cost between £28-£32; TNS charge £5 - with kids getting in for £1.

Liverpool replica shirts cost £29.99 in smaller sizes or £39.99 for adults; TNS charge £29.95 in smaller sizes or £34.94 for adults.

TNS play in green and white hoops, bearing a passing resemblance to Celtic's home kit.

* TNS will play their 'home' leg next Tuesday at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground, capacity 9,000.

Liverpool got acclimatised at the Racecourse on Saturday with a 4-3 friendly win against Wrexham.

* The last time TNS faced English opposition in Europe was in the Uefa Cup in 2003 against Manchester City.

TNS lost 5-0 in the first leg in Manchester, before going down 2-0 in the return in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
