Mexico leads Guatemala late in their game 4-0. If the score holds its not good news for Canada, as this group would then have 3 teams with at least 3 points heading into the final match for all teams - South Africa, Jamaica and Mexico. Guatemala is essentially out, unless they really whip the ass of the South Africans in the final match - they are currently -5. Mexico will have 3 points and be plus 3. They'd have to lose their final match by a few goals and we'd have to beat Cuba by several goals to finish ahead of them for one of the 3rd place spots.

Our best hope may be for one (or both) of Honduras or T&T to stay at one or two points after tonight.

Well we can pretty well rule out finishing ahead of the third place team in Group C. Mexico is in third place with three points and a plus 3 goal differential, while we can not possibly catch Jamaica or South Africa after their 3-3 tie (sounds like it would be fun to play Jamaica in this tourney!) leaves them with four points each.

It all comes down to Group A's third place team & whether we can possibly finish ahead of them. Honduras & Colombia are 0-0 halfway through the first half. Its going to be a long night of scoreboard watching.

Incidentally, early reports coming out of Galavision (according to a post on bigsoccer.com) is that two Cubans have defected from the team. The names have not been announced yet but are expected to be later tonight.

Also, Colombia leads Honduras 1-0 late in their match, which wouldn't be too bad of a result for our purposes.

Another bad result for our purposes as Honduras scores two late goals to come from behind and defeate Colombia 2-1. A draw or a Colombia win would have been better as both teams would have remained within Canada's reach in the event of a Canadian victory. Now Honduras has four points and if they should finish 3rd would be ahead of Canada.

Panama & T&T are scoreless early in the first half.

Panama 2 - 2 T&T final.

Looks like T&T has to lose or tie their final game for us to have a chance of advancing, and we have to beat Cuba by 4 or more clear goals (if T&T tie). If T&T lose we still have to contend with Colombia's goal difference. Is there the possibility of a coin toss? Of course, if T&T win their final game we are out.

Please correct the above if wrong.

A bloody 2-2 final between Panama & T&T. Panama takes a 2-1 lead in the 89th minute, which would have been a great result for Canada, but T&T tie it up a minute later.

Panama is now out of our reach as well as Honduras in this group. T&T have 2 points, Colombia 0. If T&T beats Colombia we are pretty well eliminated unless Mexico gets creamed by Jamaica and we run up the score on Cuba. If T&T and Colombia tie, T&T will have 3 points for 3rd place with a 0 goal differential. Canada will need to have defeated Cuba by three goals to tie them in that regard and then will only go ahead if they have scored more goals (T&T have scored 3 already, so it would have to be a 0-0 tie for them for a 3-0 victory to do the trick for us - another draw with goals scored and we'd have to get at least four goals to equal, another 2-2 draw and we'd have to get 5, you get the idea).

If Colombia wins, that's our best hope. T&T finish last with 2 points and Colombia finishes with three. Then it would depend on goal differential should we beat Cuba. Colombia is minus two but if they beat T&T they'd have to be at least minus 1 (while we would be at least minus two if we beat Cuba).

So our chances are very slim, even if we do win. Stranger things have happend. The best thing we can do is go out and score as many goals possible. A 4-0 win would likely do the trick. Just need to get Cuba to play like Belize.

yes, the only practical way we can qualify is if we hammer Cuba and beat them by several goals on Tuesday AND if Colombia just edge Trinidad earlier that evening but don't run up the score. Looks doubtful, but at least we know how much we would have to win by before we play so we have something to aim for (if Colombia ties or beats Trinidad, if Trinidad win it's all over before we play, as there is no way Mexcio is not going to finish a high third with it's present +3 GD on Wednesday).

So, realistically (since we all know Canada won't score 3 goals in a game), to advance we need to:

- beat Cuba by 2 goals (to make us -1)

- have Colombia beat T&T by exactly 1 goal (to make them -1)

- win the coin toss

We could start by scoring a goal.

Reading the live update comments over on the Gold Cup website, it looks like Colombia is pushing for the win while T & T is content to play for the 0-0 draw. Sounds ideal for the 1-0 Colombia result we're all hoping for.
